With the Haenel “Competition Rifle” 223, short CR 223, the gunsmith Haenel continues its long tradition in manufacturing semi-automatic rifles.
Once, the first assault rifle in history was built and developed at C.G. Haenel in Suhl. The CR 223 is a semi-automatic rifle with a piston system in caliber .223 Rem. based on the legendary AR 15 system. As a modern semi-auto in centerfire design, the Haenel CR 223 also operates as a gas-operated rifle with a rotating bolt. The telescopic stock is length-adjustable in six steps. The rifle features a free-floating, cold hammer-forged barrel.
C.G. Haenel has a long tradition as a manufacturer of semi- and fully automatic sport and law enforcement firearms: With the StG44, the first assault rifle in the world was co-developed and manufactured at Haenel in Suhl in the 20th century. All the know-how of this firearm category flowed into the new development of the civilian CR and military MK models, which meet AR-15/M4 standards. An in-house production with cold forging plant completes the expertise of the Suhl specialists. Here, sport and law enforcement firearms are produced that set standards internationally – made in Suhl, Germany.
