On an AR system, a scope mount must solve three things at once: The eye relief must be right when shouldering, both clamping points must stay on the rigid receiver, and the sight line must fit the straight stock geometry. If a clip-on is placed in front of the scope, a fourth requirement arises: Both optical axes should be at the same height without the objective or attachment device colliding.

That’s exactly what the QDP-4016 is designed for. It takes a scope with a 34 mm main tube, sets its axis 38 mm above the rail, and shifts the ring positions 40 mm forward. Two quick-release levers clamp the one-piece mount onto a continuous Picatinny or STANAG rail; the optic can be removed without tools.

The four key purchase data: Tube: 34 mm main tube with sufficiently long straight clamping surfaces. Height: 38 mm from rail top edge to optical center axis. Base: continuous, rigid MIL-STD-1913 or STANAG-4694 rail. Use: 40 mm forward offset and true QD removal must serve a specific purpose in your setup.

38 mm axis height: for AR ergonomics and forward devices
The 38 mm height corresponds to 1.5 inches and is 4 mm higher than the low QDP-4046. On AR-15 and AR-10 systems, it supports a more upright head position because stock top edge and receiver rail largely align. The cheek weld then remains quick and repeatable when the full field of view appears without pressure on the cheek.
On a classic hunting stock with a lower comb, the same height can be too high. There, the cheek loses contact even though there is plenty of space under the objective. The decision is therefore not based on the largest possible objective but on head position and available space together.
Spuhr explicitly assigns the QDP-4016 to 56 mm objectives on AR platforms. This specification describes the objective class of the scope, not the outer diameter of the housing. For the real fit, the largest outer dimension including protective cap counts.

Calculating objective clearance transparently
Over a rail or handguard level that is as high as under the objective, 38 mm axis height theoretically allows a maximum of 76 mm outer diameter at zero clearance. A housing with 64 mm outer diameter leaves 6 mm clearance mathematically; if the protective cap adds up to 68 mm, 4 mm remain.
The formula is: 38 mm minus half the outer diameter minus any elevation under the objective. Desired safety clearance, a higher handguard, and accessories on the top rail are additionally subtracted. The examples only explain the geometry; they are not measurements for a specific scope.
The turret block also belongs to the fit. The model data sheet excludes 34 mm optics with extended US-Optics-TPAL/EREK adjustment turret housing. The correct main tube diameter alone therefore does not confirm that both rings sit exclusively on straight clamping surfaces.

Clip-on night vision: height alignment instead of marketing promises
Spuhr describes the 38 mm axis line as the absolute co-witness height for most forward night vision devices on AR platforms. This means the geometric height alignment of...
n scope and clip-on on the same rail plane. Only when both optical axes actually align does the image remain usable without unnecessary shading and without an improvised height adapter.
The height specification alone does not guarantee system compatibility. The clip-on requires sufficient rail length in front of the scope; its eyepiece must not touch the objective housing, and the manufacturer of the attachment device must approve the combination of recoil class, distance, and scope magnification. The QDP-4016 provides the suitable 1.5-inch base but does not replace model-specific approval.

40 mm forward offset without clamping on the handguard
The cantilever moves the scope 40 mm further forward than a straight block mount. This creates space on an AR receiver for the proper eye relief, even though the stock and the usable receiver rail limit the position. Both QD clamping points remain on the same rigid rail section.
The mount should not be placed over the transition between upper receiver and handguard. A handguard can move differently under bipod, sling, or barricade load than the receiver. The cantilever solves the forward offset within a one-piece mount body, thus avoiding a mechanical bridge over two differently loaded assemblies.

Using the QD clamping correctly
The two locked levers sit on the left, the TufLok adjustment screws on the opposite side. When mounting, the mount is fully inserted into the same rail groove and pressed forward against its flank before closing the levers. This keeps the mechanical reference the same with every remount.
If a lever cannot be closed, it should not be forced. The current Spuhr manual describes loosening the opposite adjustment screw by two turns, closing the lever, and carefully tightening the screw. Then the mount is repositioned and checked for movement by pulling backward. The adjustment belongs to the specific rail and may need to be redone after a weapon change.

0 MIL remains neutral
The QDP-4016 adds no forward tilt. 0 MIL or 0 MOA keeps the ring axis parallel to the mount base and does not shift the internal elevation adjustment range of the scope. A pre-tilted weapon rail remains part of the overall setup.
For long distances, 0 MIL is neither better nor worse but a system decision. Those needing additional tilt must consider rail tilt, scope counter-adjustment range, and achievable zero point together. A tilted sister mount should not be chosen solely based on a larger MOA number.

Construction, bubble level, and Spuhr interfaces
According to the datasheet, the mount body is made from 7075-T651 aluminum and hard anodized. Eight sets of the Spuhr interface accept compatible accessories. The integrated bubble level is located in the rear area and shows lateral cant if visible from the actual rest position without head movement.
The diagonally split rings keep the screw heads out of the immediate area of the adjustment turrets. The current QDP manual specifies 2.0 Nm or the lower value recommended by the optics manufacturer for the pre-waxed M4 ring screws. Additional lubrication or thread locker changes the preload and should not be applied unchecked to the prepared screws.
The supplied 10-degree wedge can align a suitable flat underside of the scope for mounting. Its back serves as a gauge for accessory screws so that an overly long screw does not protrude into the ring space and press pointwise on the main tube.

Our assessment
The strongest reason to buy the QDP-4016 is the combination of AR-appropriate 38 mm height, 40 mm cantilever, and genuine quick-release function. It is especially convincing when a 34 mm scope with a large objective or a front-mounted...
Clip-on is used and the optic is regularly removed from the rifle.
The most common misconception would be to choose 38 mm solely because of the larger installation space. If the stock comb is low, the high sight line costs cheek contact. If the optic is never removed, a screw mount remains simpler. And if a 34 mm axis height is ergonomically sufficient, the QDP-4046 is more compact. Premium here arises from suitable geometry, not from as many functions as possible.

Instructor tip: Plan head position before clip-on
First adjust stock length and scope position so that the full field of view appears immediately with a natural hold. Only then reserve rail length for the clip-on. If the scope is pushed too far back just because of the attachment device, the device distance is correct, but the hold becomes unreliable under time pressure.

User tip: Don’t confuse the 56 mm class with 56 mm outer dimension
Measure the objective housing at the thickest point with the protective cap mounted. With a 64 mm outer diameter, there are theoretically 6 mm above an equally high plane, with 68 mm still 4 mm. If the handguard is higher than the receiver, this excess is additionally deducted.

User tip: Determine clip-on axis and distance together
Place scope and attachment device on the same rail without final tightening. The optical axes must align, the distance required by the device manufacturer must remain between clip-on eyepiece and objective housing, and both devices must be operable independently. A height adapter does not solve a too short rail section.

User tip: Document reassembly
Note the used rail slot and always position the QDP-4016 fully forward on its flank. Same slot, same mounting direction, and unchanged lever tension create comparable conditions. After reassembly, a controlled zero confirmation belongs to the process instead of deriving a guarantee from the term QD.

User tip: Read the bubble level from the eyebox
The integrated bubble level should be visible lying down and at the barricade without the eye leaving the field of view. If a noticeable head movement is necessary for this, a suitably positioned Spuhr interface accessory is more sensible than forced reading of the rear bubble level.

Black-Raptor short summary:
Buy if: a 34 mm scope is to be mounted 38 mm high, 40 mm forward, and regularly removable on a continuous AR receiver rail or a suitable clip-on is integrated at 1.5-inch axis height.
Don’t buy if: the stock requires a lower sight line, the optic remains permanently mounted, a two-piece rail is present, the turret housing is excluded, or additional forward tilt is needed.

FAQ
What distinguishes the QDP-4016 from the lower QDP-4046? Both have 34 mm rings, 0 MIL, 40 mm offset, and two QD levers. The QDP-4016 sets the optical axis at 38 mm, the QDP-4046 at 34 mm. Four millimeters more height create additional objective space and a more upright AR head position.
Does a 56 mm objective class scope fit automatically? No. 56 mm usually refers to the free objective opening, not the outer diameter of the housing. The decisive factor is the largest outer dimension including cap as well as the height of any contour under the objective.
Is every clip-on night vision device compatible at 38 mm? No. The 1.5-inch axis height fits many AR clip-ons according to Spuhr. Additionally, axis height, device clearance, rail length, recoil approval, and permissible scope magnification of the specific device must match.
What does 0 MOA do on this mount? The mount adds no forward tilt and does not shift the internal elevation adjustment range of the scope. An inclined weapon rail remains as a separate component in the overall system.
Can the QDP-4016 be used on a two-piece Picatinny base? No. Spuhr explicitly excludes two-piece rails. Both QD clamping points require the same continuous and rigid rail section.
Is the zero point guaranteed to remain after reattachment? A guarantee would be unprofessional. A fixed groove, consistent sliding to the groove flank, and correctly adjusted levers create reproducible conditions. After reattachment, a controlled zero confirmation remains part of a clean process. (Show description in original language)

Spuhr · 34 mm · QD · 38 mm Höhe · 40 mm Vorversatz
