The jaw is short and strong, with long canine teeth. The eye sockets are particularly large and not completely bony closed. They are directed forward, allowing for spatial vision. The lynx has a typical carnivore dentition with large canine teeth (Incisivi) featuring so-called dagger grooves.
Overall, lynxes have 28 teeth, their dentition consists of three incisors (Incisivi), one canine (Caninus), two premolars (Praemolares), and one molar (Molares) per upper jaw half, and three incisors (Incisivi), one canine (Caninus), two premolars (Praemolares), and one molar (Molares) per lower jaw half; sometimes there is an additional molar developed on one or both sides of the lower jaw.
