The RS 3 Heritage Fourstar repeater rifle from Walther revolutionizes hunting with a silencer. This is becoming increasingly popular for obvious reasons: the hearing of hunters and hunting dogs is protected, the game in the area is not startled, and shooting is more comfortable. These reasons in favor of the silencer are partly offset by disadvantages that have so far only been inadequately compensated. The shorter barrels, which compensate for the additional length of the silencer, impair the ballistic performance of the ammunition. In contrast, using the silencer with a standard barrel makes the rifle unwieldy and front-heavy.
Walther has not tinkered further with its RS 3 series but has consistently focused on innovative solutions. In the new compact repeater, the entire construction principle has been oriented towards use with a silencer, without resorting to shorter barrels. The system of the RS 3 has been moved backward to keep the rifle compact and balanced with the same barrel length plus silencer.
The Stock
In the Heritage Fourstar version of the RS 3 straight-pull repeater, the one-piece hole stock is made of Caucasian walnut wood class 4. The wood is treated with a matte finish as protection against weather and mechanical damage. The cheek piece and grip areas feature pleasantly tactile elastomer inlays. The pistol grip and drop nose have endings made of black ebony.
Due to the special design of the rifle, the hand tension is located in the thumb hole of the buttstock. It is intuitively tensioned when shouldering, and the safety status of the rifle is always perceptible with the shooting hand, additionally indicated by color (red-green). This construction makes shouldering and tensioning a single fluid motion.
The Walther box magazine is also located in the stock behind the pistol grip. It has a capacity of 6 rounds in standard calibers and 5 rounds in magnum calibers. The magazine is equipped with a lock against unintentional release; this safety consists of 2 locking wings that must be pressed simultaneously when removing the magazine and when changing it.
The System
Innovative technologies have been applied to the system due to its position in the rifle. The core of the RS 3 rifle is a 64 cm long single-frame housing. This monocoque system has been milled from solid aluminum, making it absolutely precise and also lightweight. The secure closure consists of a 3-lug rotating head. The center of gravity of the rifle is at the level of the trigger guard, making it perfectly balanced.
The RS 3 rifle is a straight-pull repeater, which facilitates comfortable operation in the shoulder and quick follow-up shots. The chamber grip ball is optimally sized and perfectly placed. This allows for cycling without losing sight of the game. A re-tensioning occurs during the cycling process, so you are immediately ready to shoot again. The performance hunting trigger breaks cleanly at a resistance weight of 800 g. The surfaces of the system and the barrel are carbonized.
The Barrel
The length of the 17 mm barrel is 58 cm for the standard calibers .308Win and .30-06Spring, and 62 cm for the magnum version with .300WinMag. These barrels in standard length allow for a total length of compact 104 or 108 cm thanks to the innovative construction principle. At the muzzle, there is a Zerolock quick coupling for mounting the corresponding Walther silencer, and the barrel is without sights. It features the base for the Walther Fixlock mount, which is available for optics with and without rails, red dot sights, and Picatinny rails (not included).
The Silencer
The RS 3 rifles are only delivered complete with the Walther QSA silencer. However, due to legal circumstances, it is necessary to order the silencer separately. You can do this. It is made of tenifer-treated high-performance steel and has a hard-anodized aluminum tube. The attachment to the barrel is simple and precise using the Zerolock quick coupling.

Das RS 3 Heritage Fourstar-Repetiergewehr von Walther revolutioniert die Jagd mit Schalldämpfer. Diese wird aus naheliegenden Gründen immer beliebter: das Gehör von Jägerin und Jäger sowie der Jagdhunde wird geschützt, das Wild im Revier nicht aufgeschreckt und die Schussabgabe komfortabler. Diese Gründe, die für den Schalldämpfer sprechen, werden zum Teil durch Nachteile aufgehoben, die bislang nur unzureichend kompensiert werden konnten. Die kürzeren Läufe, die die zusätzliche Länge des Dämpfers ausgleichen, beeinträchtigten die ballistischen Leistungen der Munition. Wird dagegen der Schalldämpfer mit einem Standardlauf verwendet, wird die Büchse unhandlich und kopflastig.
Walther hat bei seiner RS 3-Serie nicht weiter herumgedoktert, sondern hat konsequent auf innovative Lösungen gesetzt. Bei dem neuen kompakten Repetierer wurde das gesamte Konstruktionsprinzip auf den Einsatz mit einem Schalldämpfer ausgerichtet, ohne dabei auf kürzere Läufe zurückzugreifen. Das System der RS 3 wurde nach hinten verlegt, um mit gleicher Lauflänge plus Silencer das Gewehr kompakt und ausbalanciert zu belassen.
Der Schaft
Bei der Heritage Fourstar-Ausführung des RS 3-Geradezugrepetierers besteht der einteilige Lochschaft aus kaukasischem Walnuss-Schaftholz der Klasse 4. Das Holz ist als Schutz vor Witterung und mechanischer Beschädigung mit einem matten Finish versehen. An der Backe und en Griffflächen befinden sich haptisch angenehme Elastomer-Einlagen. Der Pistolengriff und die Tropfnase haben Abschlüsse aus schwarzem Ebenholz.
Durch die besondere Bauart des Gewehrs befindet sich die Handspannung in dem Daumenloch des Hinterschafts. Gespannt wird so intuitiv beim Anschlagen, der Sicherheitsstatus des Gewehrs ist dabei mit der Schusshand stets spürbar, zusätzlich wird er farblich (rot-grün) angezeigt. Diese Konstruktion macht Anlegen und Spannen zu einer einzigen fließenden Bewegung.
Auch das Walther Reihenmagazin befindet sich im Schaft hinter dem Pistolengriff. Es hat eine Kapazität von 6 Schuss in den Standard- und 5 Schuss in den Magnum-Kalibern. Das Magazin ist mit einer Sperre gegen unfreiwilliges Lösen versehen, diese Sicherung besteht aus 2 Rastflügeln, die beim Entnehmen des Magazins und beim Wechseln gleichzeitig gedrückt werden müssen.
Das System
Bei dem System wurden wegen dessen Position im Gewehr innovative Technologien angewandt. Das Kernstück der RS 3-Büchse ist ein 64 cm langes Single-Frame-Gehäuse. Dieses Monocoque-System wurde aus vollem Aluminium gefräst, was es absolut präzise und zudem leicht macht. Der sichere Verschluss besteht aus einem 3-Warzen Drehkopf. Der Schwerpunkt des Gewehrs befindet sich auf der Höhe des Abzugsbügels, damit ist es perfekt ausbalanciert.
Die RS 3-Büche ist ein Geradezug-Repetierer, was einem komfortablen Bedienen im Anschlag und schnellen Schussfolgen entgegenkommt. Die Kammergriffkugel ist optimal dimensioniert und perfekt platziert. So kann repetiert werden, ohne dabei das Wild aus den Augen zu verlieren. Eine Nachspannung erfolgt während des Repetiervorgangs, so dass man direkt wieder schussbereit ist. Der Performance Jagdabzug bricht trocken bei einem Widerstandsgewicht von 800 g. Die Oberflächen des Systems und des Laufs sind carbonisiert.
Der Lauf

Auf ihm befindet sich die Basis zur Aufnahme der Walther Fixlock-Montage, die für Optiken mit und ohne Schiene, Leuchtpunktvisiere und Picatinny-Schienen erhältlich ist (nicht inklusive).
Der Schalldämpfer
Die RS 3-Büchsen werden nur komplett mit dem Walther QSA Schalldämpfer geliefert. Wegen der gesetzlichen Lage ist es allerdings notwendig, den Schalldämpfer separat zu bestellen. Dieses können Sie tun. Er ist aus teniferiertem Hochleistungsstahl gefertigt und hat einen hart-eloxiertem Aluminium-Tube. Die Befestigung am Lauf erfolgt einfach und präzise mittels der Zerolock Schnellkupplung.
