Reproduction of the COLT BURGESS 1883 Carbine

Cal. 44/40 WCF

COLT's only attempt from 1883-1885 to compete with Winchester
was the BURGESS model. COLT produced a total of 6403 rifles in just 21 months,
after which production was halted.
According to tradition, Colt was in direct competition with this production
against Winchester, and Winchester developed some revolver models that would then
have been in direct competition with Colt's main products.
An agreement was then reached between Colt and Winchester, which is why
production was discontinued.

With such a small production, the Burgess is one of the rarer models of Colt firearms
and this model had considerable appeal to collectors.
Further adding to its attractiveness is the fact that Buffalo Bill also owned a Burgess.

Collectors have named this model BURGESS, after the war photographer Burgess.
Burgess was also a prolific designer of firearms and held nearly 600 firearm patents.

COLT's einziger Versuch von 1883-1885 um mit Winchester zu konkurrieren
wurde das Modell BURGESS produziert. COLT produzierte in nur 21 Monate
insgesamt 6403 Gewehre, danach wurde die Produktion eingestellt.
Der Überlieferung nach stand Colt mit dieser Produktion in direkter Konkurrenz
zu Winchester und Winchester entwickelte einige Revolver Modelle die dann in
direkter Konkurrenz zu Colts Hauptprodukten gewesen wären.
Zwischen Colt und Winchester wurde dann eine Einigung erzielt, deshalb die Einstellung
der Produktion.

Bei einer so kleinen Produktion ist die Burgess eines der selteneren Modelle von Colt-Waffen
und dieses Modell hatte eine beträchtliche Anziehungskraft bei den Sammlern.
Zur weiteren Attraktivität trägt noch bei, dass auch Buffalo Bill eine Burgess besaß.

Sammler haben diesem Modell den Namen BURGESS gegeben, benannt nach dem Kriegsfotografen Burgess.
Burges war auch ein produktiver Designer von Schusswaffen und hatte fast 600 Schusswaffenpatente.
