The Shield RMS/SMS mounting standard is used with most compact red dot sights with an open reflex. It is a miniature version of the Docter/Noblex/Burris mounting standard. There are four sockets, one in each corner, and two screw holes between the middle and rear part of the mounting surface. The sockets are paired with recoil stop pins on the adapter. Shield was the first company to manufacture a red dot sight with this mounting standard. Once the sight is coupled with an adapter, the screws are inserted from above through the housing of the red dot sight. Many compact optics-ready (OR) pistols are designed for use in combination with a red dot sight with the Shield RMS/SMS mounting standard.
