The hunting of tomorrow will sustainably change firearms manufacturing
Walther is leading the way with the RS3
Hunting with a suppressor
Suppressors are becoming an increasingly essential part of hunting—for ethical, efficient and successful hunting. A suppressor not only protects the hearing of the hunter and dog. It also significantly reduces disturbance to wildlife. The hunter shoots better because recoil and muzzle blast are minimized, making shooting much more comfortable.
A wrong turn: shortening the barrel for a suppressor
The prerequisite, however, is that the suppressor is designed as an integral part of the firearm system, with optimal overall length, balance and ergonomics. Traditional bolt-action rifles and even modern compact bolt-action rifles become extremely long and heavily front-heavy when fitted with suppressors. The “pointability” so important for driven hunts—the firearm’s instinctive pointing behavior—is lost. Many manufacturers respond by shortening barrels, sometimes drastically. But if, for example, you shorten a .300 Winchester Magnum barrel from 62 cm to 42 cm, the .300 Win. Mag. is barely more than a .308 Winchester. The lead required on driven hunts increases significantly. Long-range performance is greatly reduced.
Time to reinvent the hunting bolt-action rifle!
With the RS 3, Walther is taking a forward-looking approach: the first compact bolt-action rifle with a suppressor system perfectly matched to the complete system. Designed from the ground up. You can focus on hitting your target without sacrificing the performance you want.
The result:
• Outstanding handling on driven hunts, while stalking and from a high seat. • Optimal barrel length for the ballistic performance of each caliber. • Ideal balance, ergonomics and outstanding “pointability”: The RS 3 is highly intuitive and naturally points almost exactly where the hunter’s eye is focused. • All controls are perfectly positioned for ergonomics, allowing you to cock and cycle the action in a flash.
