CZ 75 Tropenlack 9 × 19 mm – classic all-steel pistol with 15-round magazine

The CZ 75 in 9 × 19 mm combines a solid all-steel construction with a single-action/double-action trigger and a double-stack 15-round magazine. The painted “Tropenlack” finish described here adds to the classic design of this Czech pistol. Since its introduction in 1975, the CZ 75 has been one of the technically influential designs among large-caliber semi-automatic pistols.

Tropenlack – distinctive painted finish

A special feature of this CZ 75 is its surface coating, known as Tropenlack. It defines the firearm’s appearance and forms an additional protective layer over the coated metal surfaces. An intact coating can reduce the underlying steel’s exposure to moisture; regular maintenance is still required.

Solid steel construction and proven action system

The steel frame and slide give the CZ 75 its characteristic solid construction. Technically, it is a locked-breech semi-automatic pistol with a short-recoil barrel. Two locking lugs on the barrel engage corresponding recesses in the slide. The standard 120 mm barrel is part of the classic full-size configuration.

Its relatively high weight can help make recoil feel less abrupt. The pronounced grip contour and balanced feel in the hand are also key features of the CZ 75 design. This combination of ergonomics and traditional steel construction explains much of its enduring popularity.

Single Action / Double Action – classic hammer mechanism

The CZ 75 has an external hammer and an SA/DA trigger system. In double-action mode, pulling the trigger cocks and releases the hammer. In single-action mode, the trigger releases the already-cocked hammer, with a shorter, lighter trigger pull. This combination pairs the classic double-action function with a lighter trigger pull for precision-oriented target shooting.

The manual thumb safety has no decocking function. Important for correct model identification: the firing pin block found on the later CZ 75 B is not part of the original CZ 75 design.

Single Action / Double Action – klassische Hahnmechanik
