Inspiré du fusil français Charleville Modèle 1763, c'est le premier fusil militaire fabriqué à l'arsenal de Springfield, Massachussets. Le secrétaire du ministre de la Guerre, Timothy Pickering, avait suggéré pour la création d'un nouveau fusil d'utiliser les pièces stockées depuis 1794 de l'arsenal de Springfield. Ces dernières étant utilisées pour la réparation de fusils. Ce nouveau Modèle a été produit en quelques 85000 unités jusqu'en 1814.
Notre reproduction reste fidèle en tous points aux modèles fabriqués entre 1799 et 1802. Platine et garnitures sont en acier. Crosse en noyer.
