Böker Taschen Messerschärfer. Bei Fachleuten verschrien, von Praktikern geliebt. Der klassische zweistufige X-förmige Taschenschärfer ist vermutlich das meistverkaufte und genutzte Schärfgerät der Welt. Eingelassen in den Kunststoffkörper ist ein V-Schleifer aus zwei Hartmetallsegmenten und gegenüberliegend ein feiner V-Schleifer aus Keramikstäben. Sein zu Unrecht schlechter Ruf in der Fachwelt liegt im Hartmetall-V begründet, das die Klinge nicht im eigentlichen Sinne schleift, sondern Stahlspäne in Längsrichtung aus der Schneide zieht. Wird hier mit zu viel Druck und zu schnell gearbeitet, entstehen Rattermarken an der Schneide, also ein unregelmäßiger und rauer Schliff. Je mehr Wiederholungen und je schwächer der Druck, desto feiner wird das Ergebnis. Im zweiten Schritt kann der Schliff mit den Keramikstäben noch einmal verbessert werden. Der Schärfer eignet sich besonders für Kohlenstoffstähle oder weichere Klingen. Bei einigen preiswerten weicheren Stählen lässt sich hiermit sogar eher eine Schneide erzielen als mit einem Schleifstein oder Stab, die bei dieser Materialqualität schnell einen Grat aufwerfen oder die Schneide umlegen. Das Gerät hat also seine Berechtigung überall dort, wo schnell und unkompliziert eine zweckdienliche, aber nicht perfekte Arbeitsschärfe wieder hergestellt werden soll. Der niedrige Preis, das kleine Maß und die einfache Anwendung sind wesentliche Gründe für den Erfolg dieses Konzeptes. Gummierte Griffflächen und beidseitig gummierte Auflagefüße gewährleisten eine sichere Anwendung. Nicht geeignet für verzahnten Klingen oder Scheren.
