Die Locker sind auf Schmalreh-Fiepton eingestellt. Der Fiepton ist die Umgangs- und Verständigungssprache des Rehwildes und muß daher als die natürlichste und richtigste Blattmethode betrachtet werden. Der Fiepton darf nicht zu hoch eingestellt werden, da sonst weit mehr Geißen als Böcke zustehen. Als Regel merke man sich: nicht zuviel blatten.
Bei Gebrauch den Blatter so in die hohle Hand nehmen, daß das Mundstück noch etwa 1cm aus der geschlossenen Hand zwischen Daumen und Zeigefinger hervorragt. Den Blatter an die mäßig zusammengesetzten Lippen ansetzen, nicht in den Mund stecken.Durch einen kurzen Hauch entsteht der kurze, zarte und naturgetreue Fieplaut „fie“.
Mann beginne das blatten erst, nachdem der Stand möglichst geräuschlos eingenommen wurde. Nach einer Ruhepause von ca. 10-15 Minuten beginne man ungefähr folgendermaßen zu fiepen:
2-3 Fieptöne nach verschiedenen Richtungen, dann eine Pause von 1-2 Minuten; darauffolgend 2-3 Fieptöne, wiederum nach einer Pause von 3-4 Minuten wiederhole man dasselbe noch einmal.
Die einzelnen Laute sollen nicht zu rasch aufeinanderfolgen, etwa im Tempo der Atmung: Fieplaut – Einatmen – Ausatmen – Fieplaut usw. Nach dem Blatten sollte man noch 10-15 Minuten am Stand ruhig ausharren, es kommt vor, das bei zu schnellen Abgehen vom Stand der Bock schmählend abspringt. Das Blatten am Erdboden wirkt natürlicher, als das vom Hochsitz aus.
