Der Vectronix TERRAPIN X ist ein monokularer Laser-Entfernungsmesser mit 8-facher Vergrößerung und 28-mm-Objektiv. Der integrierte Laser arbeitet mit einer Wellenlänge von 905 nm und ist nach IEC 60825-1 als Laser der Klasse 1 eingestuft. Der Messbereich reicht von 20 bis 3.000 m; die spezifizierte Reichweite beträgt 2.000 m unter den vom Hersteller angegebenen Testbedingungen.
Neben der Entfernungsmessung verfügt das TERRAPIN X über einen digitalen Magnetkompass. Angezeigt werden unter anderem Schrägdistanz, äquivalente horizontale Entfernung, Neigungswinkel und Azimut. Ein Scan-Modus ermöglicht fortlaufende Messungen; die Messzeit beträgt laut Hersteller weniger als 0,5 Sekunden.
Das TERRAPIN X verfügt über Bluetooth 4.1 Low Energy zur Verbindung mit kompatiblen Geräten und Anwendungen. Die Stromversorgung erfolgt über eine 3-V-Lithiumbatterie; die Batteriekapazität beträgt laut Hersteller mehr als 4.000 Messungen bei ausgeschaltetem Bluetooth. Das Gerät besitzt eine ¼“-20-UNC-Stativschnittstelle und ist bis 1 m für 30 Minuten wasserdicht.
