Da die preußische Gewehrprüfungskommission (G.P.K.) in Spandau bestrebt war, durch Kombinieren von Einzelkomponenten verschiedener Herkunft das beste Gewehr zu schaffen, trägt es auch den Namen „Kommissionsgewehr“.
