SP-3001: deliberately low, neutral, and permanently secured
The Spuhr SP-3001 is a fixed one-piece mount for scopes with a 30 mm main tube, designed for a one-piece MIL-STD-1913/STANAG-4694 rail. Its optical axis sits 30 mm above the rail, the mount adds no cant, and it has no QD mechanism.
Key buying consideration: Lower is only better if your head position, objective clearance, bolt travel, and the two fixed ring zones on the scope actually line up.
Check fit before buying
Our honest assessment
The SP-3001’s strength lies in its straightforward geometry: 30 mm tube, 30 mm optical axis height, 0 MIL, and a fixed screw clamp. It suits bolt-action rifles with a one-piece rail when you want a low sight line and a permanently mounted scope.
The limitation is clearance. With a low optical axis, the objective housing, lens cap, magnification ring, or bolt handle can become a bottleneck sooner. If you frequently switch optics, need a true cantilever, or require additional cant, don’t try to force the SP-3001 into a different role.
A good fit if … your scope has a true 30 mm main tube and your firearm has a one-piece Picatin
ny/STANAG rail and has a 30 mm centerline height that fits ergonomically and mechanically.
… you’re looking for a fixed, neutral mount without a quick-release lever or added cant.
Not the right fit if … … you need a two-piece base, a SAKO S20, a QD mount, true forward offset, or more objective clearance.
… your scope has extended or poorly positioned housing sections that would interfere with the fixed ring zones.
Buying checklist: five points to consider
1. Main tube The 30 mm tube must be cylindrical and unobstructed at both clamping zones. The turret block, transition cone, or extended housing must not sit under a ring.
2. Base Spuhr requires a one-piece MIL-STD-1913 / STANAG 4694 rail. A split base is not compatible with the one-piece body.
3. Centerline height The 30 mm measurement is from the top of the rail to the optical centerline. The height must suit your cheek weld and natural head position—not just be as low as possible.
4. Objective and bolt clearance Measure the outside diameter, including the protective cap, and the position of the wide housing section. On bolt-action rifles, also check the full bolt travel.
5. Eye relief The body has no built-in cantilever. Check whether the scope can achieve the correct eye relief within the available rail position.
Reading 0 MOA correctly 0 MIL / 0 MOA means the mount adds no cant. An existing canted rail remains part of the overall system.
What the design means in practice
Fixed screw clamp For a permanently mounted, zeroed system, the fixed clamp is a stable solution without a lever. For frequent optic changes, a QDP version is more practical.
Low profile The 30 mm centerline can provide a very close cheek weld. But if the stock geometry doesn’t suit you, the same height forces your head down unnecessarily.
Seven Spuhr interfaces The interfaces allow accessories to be attached to the mount body. Still, check screw length and actual use to make sure nothing reaches the main tube.
Integrated level and wedge The 10-degree leveling wedge helps with alignment when you have a suitable flat reference surface. It doesn’t replace checking that the rifle and reticle are actually level with each other.
Limitations, drawbacks, and common buying mistakes
Mount too low: If you have to actively push your head down, the geometry is wrong even if there’s enough objective clearance.
Considering only the objective class: What matters is the actual outside diameter with the cap on and the position of that diameter relative to the rail and mount bridge.
Taking 0 MOA to mean “the rifle is level”: The mount is neutral; the geometry of the existing rail remains unchanged.
Using a fixed mount like a QD mount: You can remove and reinstall it, but you’ll need tools and should then check zero.
Installation and safety checks
Work only on a firearm that has been safely unloaded. Keep the rail and ring surfaces clean, fully seat the mount, and align it without tension. The available Spuhr data specifies 5 Nm for the rail clamp and 2.0 Nm for the ring screws, or the lower value specified by the scope manufacturer.
After installation, check objective clearance, bolt travel, eye relief, the level, and zero. If there’s resistance, tension, or an unclear fit, don’t try to “make it fit” by applying more torque.

FAQ about the Spuhr SP-3001
Is the SP-3001 a quick-detach mount? No. It is screwed firmly onto the rail. For frequent tool-free changes, the QDP series is a better fit.
What does 30 mm / 30 mm / 0 MOA mean? 30 mm tube, 30 mm centerline height above the rail and no additional forward cant.
Does it fit a two-piece Picatinny base? No. The one-piece mount body is designed for a single rigid rail.
When does a higher version make sense? When the stock line, objective housing, lens caps or controls require more clearance. The SP-3002 offers a 38 mm centerline height with equally neutral geometry.
How do you check the right height? Use your actual shooting position: rest your head naturally on the cheekpiece and get a full view through the optic without pushing down. Then check objective and bolt clearance.
Black Raptor · Height before optic name
The SP-3001 is a very clear solution for a clearly defined setup. A 30 mm tube, one-piece rail, low head position and permanently screwed-on system all need to work together. If you confirm these points carefully, you get a compact, neutral Spuhr mount; if you order simply because you want it “as low as possible,” you risk exactly the classic wrong purchase.

0 MOA richtig lesen 0 MIL / 0 MOA bedeutet: Die Montage fügt keine Neigung hinzu.
Was die Konstruktion praktisch bedeutet
