SFP scope for steady, precise shots
When you need details on the target – but want to keep the reticle slim
The Vector Optics Hugo SCOL‑31 combines 6–24× magnification, side parallax adjustment, and a VOW‑10BDC reticle with a classic 25.4‑mm tube. It’s perfect for controlled shooting at the range and calm hunting situations where sixfold as a starting point isn’t too much.
Crucial: The reticle is in the second focal plane. Its angular values change relative to the target with magnification – so the BDC marks shouldn’t be used unchecked at every level.
Check if the SCOL‑31 fits your setup

Our honest assessment

The SCOL‑31 is a budget-oriented, non-illuminated SFP scope for daylight, target shooting, small caliber, airgun, and selected hunting uses. The wide magnification range and parallax adjustment from 10 yards are practical when small targets and clean shot pictures are needed.
that are more important than very fast target acquisition.
It is not a universal scope for driven hunts, dynamic disciplines, or uncompromising twilight performance. Sixfold as the lowest magnification narrows the field of view; at 24×, rest, head position, support, and parallax errors become significantly more critical. The manufacturer’s specification “shockproof up to 750 G” is also not a blanket approval for every caliber or every mount.

Fits well – or rather not?

Fits well if …
you mostly work statically on targets, in Field Target, with small caliber, or from a steady hunting position and need an adjustable parallax.
you use a classic 1-inch setup, master MOA clicks, and want to verify the BDC reticle with your actual load at known distances.

Fits rather not if …
you expect a true FFP reticle, MIL/MRAD adjustment, an illuminated aiming point, or a wide field of view for close and moving targets.
you often hunt in very low light, need large internal adjustment reserves for long distances, or are looking for optics explicitly specified for harsh magnum continuous use.

What the features mean in practice

6–24× magnification
Sixfold is suitable for overview at medium distance; 24× shows details but reduces field of view and exit pupil. High magnification only helps if rest, light, and head position cooperate.

SFP instead of FFP
The VOW‑10BDC remains optically the same size. The marks therefore only cover their defined angular size at the intended reference magnification. For other levels, you must determine values anew or work with the main reticle.

1/4 MOA per click
One click shifts the point of impact at 100 m by about 7.3 mm mathematically. The system is consistently MOA – the previously stored additional MIL/MRAD assignment does not belong to this model.

Parallax from 10 yards
The side focus is useful for short training distances and precise work. A sharp image alone is not enough: the eye must be centered and reproducible behind the eyepiece.

Instructor and user tips

Adjust reticle first: Look at a bright, featureless surface, quickly adjust diopter, and don’t “stare sharply” for minutes. Then adjust parallax and sight picture.
Don’t trust BDC, confirm it: The advertised holdover marks depend on bullet, velocity, zeroing distance, sight height, and weather. Build your own documented holdover chart from real shot groups.
Don’t use magnification as a substitute for stability: If the image moves strongly at 24×, a lower level often brings a better group. This is not an optical step back but clean error control.
Lock turrets after zeroing: Before transport and before each series, check whether the lock is engaged and the scales are still at the documented zero position.

The sensible comparison

SCOL‑31: non-illuminated and 660 g
This model is the simpler choice if you work in daylight and don’t need a battery or illuminated aiming point. It uses the VOW‑10BDC reticle and is specified by the manufacturer at 660 g.

SCOL‑32 GT: different model variant
The active Hugo SCOL‑32 GT is not simply the same optic with a different name: it has an illuminated VOI‑10BDC reticle, CR2032 power supply, and about 680 g according to the manufacturer. If illumination is important, this variant is the more suitable option.

Technical data – with practical interpretation

Model assignment Vector Optics Hugo 6–24×50 SFP, SCOL‑31, EAN/UPC 6976386120844. Do not confuse with the illuminated SCOL‑32 GT.

Optics 6–24×, 50-mm objective, fully multi-coated, Austri
ttspupille 8.3–2.0 mm. At 24× the eye position becomes correspondingly more demanding.

Reticle VOW‑10BDC in the second image plane, without illumination. Manufacturer and manual assign the BDC/distance scale to a reference magnification.

Field of view 5.26–1.33 m at 100 m according to the current manufacturer page. This explains why the scope is better suited for steady aiming than for quick close-range transitions.

Eye relief 105–100 mm. When mounting, ensure sufficient distance in all shooting positions; stock position and mounting height must be adjusted together.

Adjustment 1/4 MOA per click, total range 40 MOA for elevation and windage, lockable turrets. Reserve is limited for strongly inclined long-range setups.

Parallax & Dioptre Side parallax adjustment from 10 yards to infinity; dioptre adjustment −2 to +2.

Design 25.4 mm / 1-inch tube, housing made of 6061‑T6 aluminium, matte black finish, length 363 mm, product weight 660 g.

Weather & durability IPX4, nitrogen-filled and rated by the manufacturer for 750 G shock resistance. Divergent dealer specifications of IPX6 are not adopted due to the exact manufacturer datasheet.

Click value in centimetres 1/4 MOA corresponds to approximately 0.73 cm at 100 m, 1.45 cm at 200 m, and 2.18 cm at 300 m.

Scope of delivery

SCOL‑31 rifle scope, one pair of 25.4 mm Weaver rings, flip-up lens covers, sunshade, and cleaning cloth. The supplied rings only fit if the rail, mounting height, and clearance of your system match; “included” does not mean automatic mounting approval.

Mounting, zeroing and maintenance

Secure mounting
Completely unload the firearm, check the workspace, and degrease mounting surfaces. Tighten rings evenly and only with the torque values approved by the firearm and mount manufacturers; do not stress the tube.

Check eye relief
Test at 24× in the actual shooting positions before final tightening. Sufficient distance protects against ocular contact from recoil; full field of view without shadows indicates a reproducible head position.

Zeroing
Presetting or boresighting does not replace a control series. Zero on an approved range with a suitable rest, document click direction, then check turret lock and screw tightness.

Maintenance
Remove dust first with a blower or soft brush; do not rub lenses dry under pressure. After rain, dry the surface, only put lens covers on dry lenses, and do not carry the scope by the turrets.

FAQ about the Vector Optics SCOL‑31
Is the SCOL‑31 an FFP scope? No. Manufacturer, model page, and manual clearly classify it as SFP. The previously existing FFP tag was incorrect and will be removed.
Does the reticle have illumination? No. According to the manufacturer, the SCOL‑31 has no reticle illumination and requires no battery. For an illuminated Hugo variant, the SCOL‑32 GT is the suitable comparison option.
At what magnification do I use the BDC marks? The exact SCOL‑31 documents assign the VOW‑10BDC scale to the intended reference magnification of 10×. Regardless, hold points must be confirmed in reality with your firearm and ammunition.
Is the scope suitable for long range? It can show details at longer distances but with 40 MOA total adjustment, SFP reticle, and 1-inch tube, it is not a specialised long-range system. Distance, mounting cant, load, and required elevation reserve are decisive.
Are the supplied rings always suitable? No. They are intended for 25.4 mm tube and Weaver interface. Rail profile, mounting height, objective clearance, and desired stock position must be checked on the specific system.
Can I use it on a powerful magnum caliber? The 750 G her
stellerangabe ersetzt keine modellspezifische Kaliberfreigabe. Eine klar zuordenbare Händlerberatung sieht .300 Win. Mag. bereits an der oberen Belastungsgrenze und empfiehlt für intensive Nutzung eine robustere Baureihe.

Plan further accordingly

You can find more tested options at Vector Optics, in Hunting Optics & Rifle Scopes and under Sport Optics & Target Optics. Decide first by image plane, click system, light and real distance – not by the highest number on the magnification ring.
