The MSR 10 Long Range from SAVAGE is a semi-automatic rifle in caliber .308 Winchester. While the smaller brother in the lineup, the MSR 10 Hunter, is mostly a classic AR10, Savage pulls out all the stops with the Long Range:
The attachment of the handguard to the receiver and not to the barrel nut is also used on the Hunter and is a system known primarily from Daniel Defense. This reduces tensions and forces on the barrel extension that can negatively affect precision. Since it requires special receivers and handguards, it is not a widely used solution but one that pays off. The long 20" barrel utilizes a gas port located very far forward - this results in significantly more uniform and lower pressures acting on the gas system than if the gas port were closer to the chamber. Together with the adjustable gas block, this ensures a smoother shooting behavior, definitely a bonus for precise shots.
The long gas system and the associated lower pressures acting on the system also allow for the use of a lightweight bolt carrier, which works in conjunction with an equally lightweight buffer in the stock. The reduced weight of these moving parts and the more uniform function, because the case under lower pressure does not impede the extraction process as much, results in less recoil than one would expect from the weapon platform - this is also a measure that promotes precision.
The heavy barrel with a diameter of about 2.3cm up to the gas block is equipped with 6 flutes, which improve the vibration behavior and increase the surface area for faster cooling. The MSR10 Long Range features, in addition to the well-known T-handle of the AR platform, a side charging handle! The lever mounted on the left side is non-reciprocating and allows for chambering and manipulating the weapon even while lying down and in other shooting positions, without having to change grip. The "User Interface" of the semi-automatic rifle also offers the shooter high-quality components for precise shooting right out of the box: the Magpul PRS Gen3 stock is undoubtedly the benchmark for precision stocks in the AR area. Solid, adjustable, user-friendly, and expandable.
The trigger is a Blackhawk Blaze Two Stage, meaning it is a two-stage trigger with a short take-up. The trigger parts are coated with Boron for excellent glide properties - for a scratch-free trigger behavior without additional lubrication. The Blaze impresses not only with its moderate trigger weight - which is about 900g + 1,100g, corresponding to a light Mil-Spec trigger - but also with its excellent characteristics.

Die MSR 10 Long Range von SAVAGE ist eine Selbstladebüchse im Kaliber .308 Winchester. Während es sich bei dem kleinen Bruder im Lineup, der MSR 10 Hunter, um eine größtenteils klassische AR10 handelt, zieht Savage bei der Long Range alle Register:
Die Befestigung des Handschutzes am Gehäuse und nicht an der Laufmutter wird auch bei der Hunter verwendet und ist ein System, welches vor allem von Daniel Defense bekannt ist. Dadurch werden Spannungen und Kräfte auf die Laufaufnahme reduziert welche sich negativ auf die Präzision auswirken können. Da es spezielle Gehäuse und Handschütze erfordert, ist es keine weit verbreitete Lösung aber eine die sich auszahlt. Der lange 20" Lauf nutzt eine sehr weit vorne angebrachte Gasabnahme - dadurch wirken auf das Gassystem deutlich gleichmäßigere, und geringere, Drücke als wenn die Gasabnahme näher am Patronenlager sitzt. Zusammen mit dem verstellbaren Gasblock sorgt das für ein ruhigeres Schussverhalten, definitiv ein Bonus für präzise Schüsse.
Das lange Gassystem und die damit verbundenen geringeren Drücke die auf das System wirken erlauben auch die Nutzung eines, für eine AR10, leichten Verschlussträgers welcher in Verbindung mit einem ebenso sehr leichten Puffer im Schaft arbeitet. Durch das geringere Gewicht dieser bewegenden Teile und die gleichmäßigere Funktion, weil die mit einem geringeren Druck belastete Hülse den Ausziehvorgang nicht so stark hemmt, ergibt sich ein geringerer Rückstoß als man es von der Waffenplattform gewohnt ist - auch das ist eine präzisionsfördernde Maßnahme.
Der schwere Lauf mit ca. 2,3cm Durchmesser bis zum Gasblock ist mit 6 Flutungen versehen, diese verbessern das Schwingungsverhalten und vergrößern die Oberfläche für eine schnellere Kühlung. Die MSR10 Long Range verfügt zusätzlich zum bekannten T-Griff der AR-Plattform über einen seitlichen Ladehebel! Der linksseitig angebrachte Hebel ist nicht mitlaufend und erlaubt das durchladen und manipulieren der Waffe auch im Liegen und anderen Schießpositionen, ohne umgreifen zu müssen. Auch das "User Interface" der Selbstladebüchse bietet dem Schützen out of the boxy hochwertige Komponenten für den präzisen Schuss: der Magpul PRS Gen3 Schaft ist unzweifelhaft der Benchmark für Präzisionsschäfte im AR-Bereich. Solide, einstellbar, benutzerfreundlich und erweiterbar.
Der Abzug ist ein Blackhawk Blaze Two Stage, also ein Druckpunktabzug mit geringen Vorweg. Die Abzugsteile sind Boron-beschichtet für hervorragende Gleiteigenschafte - für ein kratzfreies Abzugsverhalten ohne zusätzliche Schmierung. Der Blaze überzeugt nicht durch sein moderates Abzugsgewicht - dieses entspricht mit ca. 900g + 1.100g einem leichten Mil-Spec Abzug - sondern durch seine hervorragende Charakteristik.
Die Savage MSR10 Long Range ist nicht einfach nur eine langläufige AR10 - es ist eine komplett auf den Einsatzzweck zugeschnittene Waffenplattform mit speziellen Features und einem zielgerichteten Zusammenspiel aller Teile.
