As a further development of the single-stack magazine variants, this all-metal pistol with adjustable sights and self-centering barrel was a great success. Die Smith & Wesson 5904 im Kaliber 9mm Luger gehörte einst zu den „Wonder Nine“ Pistolen. Als Weiterentwicklung der einreihigen Magazin Varianten wurde diese Ganzmetallpistole mit verstellbarer Visierung und sich selbst zentrierenden Lauf der grosse Wurf. Nicht zuletzt durch eine sehr gute Präzision der Pistolen zu der auch die 5906 zählt die sich als Edelstahlvariante der Serie 59x präsentiert!
