Due to his allegedly black armor, which can still be seen today in the Canterbury Cathedral, Edward of Woodstock was called the Black Prince. He was a famous and successful military leader in the early stages of the Hundred Years' War. He achieved his first success at the age of sixteen. He died at the age of 46, during the lifetime of his father King Edward II.
