A Terzerol is a compact muzzle-loading pistol that was widely used from the 17th to the 19th century. The term derives from the Italian "terzuolo," which means "male hawk." These weapons were often referred to as pocket or ladies' pistols and were primarily used for self-defense. In addition to self-defense, Terzerole were also used in agriculture, particularly in viticulture. There, they were employed as "bird scaring pistols" to keep birds away from the vineyards. In such cases, only black powder without a projectile was often loaded to create a loud bang and scare the birds away. Today, Terzerolen are especially popular among collectors and historians interested in the development and use of early firearms. The Terzerol has a German proof mark from 1891-1912 UB.
