Das Schweizer Langgewehr G1911 wurde 1896 bei der Schweizer Armee als Standartbewaffnung eingeführt. Die schweizer Armee war die erste Armee, die standartmäßig Geradezug-Repetierer eingeführt hat. Mit der Entscheidung zu dieser Waffe, ist die Feststellung nicht zu umgehen, dass die Schweiz ihren Nachbarländern im Bereich der Militärrepetierer technisch um einige Jahrzehnte voraus war.
