In March 1982, the Austrian engineer and entrepreneur Gaston Glock submitted prototypes B1 to B5 of his striker-fired pistol with the polymer frame for testing by the Austrian Armed Forces. At that time, the armed forces of the Alpine Republic were looking for a new service pistol, which was designated "Pistol P80."
