The 9.3x74 R is a top-class big game cartridge for break-action firearms, whether break-action rifle, combination gun, drilling, or double rifle. In combination weapons, it is often used with a smaller cartridge suitable for roe deer (e.g., in the insert barrel). It can be fired well from lightweight firearms and is particularly appreciated as a driven hunt cartridge in the double rifle or double rifle drilling.

The 9.3x74 R is seen as a sister cartridge to the 9.3x62, which was introduced almost simultaneously around the turn of the 20th century. In terms of performance, both cartridges are practically identical.

Die 9,3x74 R ist eine erstklassige Hochwild-Patrone für Kipplaufwaffen, egal ob Kipplaufbüchse, Bockbüchsdrilling, Drilling oder Doppelbüchse. In kombinierten Waffen wird sie gerne mit einer kleineren, Rehwild tauglichen Patrone (z. B. im Einstecklauf) geführt. Sie lässt sich gut aus leichten Waffen verschießen und wird vor allem als Drückjagd-Patrone in der Doppelbüchse oder dem Doppelbüchsdrilling geschätzt.

Die 9,3x74 R ist als Schwesterpatrone der 9,3x62 zu sehen, mit der sie fast gleichzeitig um die Jahrhundertwende zum 20. Jahrhundert vorgestellt wurde. In der Leistung sind beide Patronen praktisch identisch.
