Dieses Kaliber diente als Vorlage zur westlichen 7,62×51 NATO und wurde in der ehemaligen Sowjet Union bereits 1943 vorgestellt. Obwohl sie eine kürzere Hülsenlänge aufweist, hat sie aber nahezu gleiche ballistische Eigenschaften. Heutzutage bietet sich dieses Kaliber für jagdliches Übungsschießen oder das Sportschießen an.
