Tippmann Arms: Rimfire Semi-Auto Rifles
Tippmann Arms is the reference when it comes to rimfire semi-automatics in AR-15 style. The product range extends from simply designed models, such as those used for "plinking" on steel gongs, to competition-ready models. Tippmann is also represented in dynamic shooting sports, such as IPSC in the Mini Rifle category, with models from the M4-22 series.
Tippmann Arms is a well-established name in the paintball sport and has made significant investments in the area of firearms requiring permits over the past years. The manufacturer has a very high internal value creation, so nearly all manufacturing parts of the AR-15 platform are produced and assembled in-house. This ensures minimal tolerances and an unparalleled quality standard in this price segment. The processing of metal and plastic parts is top-notch, and the firearms overall feel very high-quality. The free-floating aluminum handguard is designed to be extremely stable and is firmly connected to the upper receiver.
Our Experiences with the Tippmann Arms AR-15 Models
The rimfire firearms from Tippmann allow for an affordable entry into dynamic long gun shooting. They also come with a lot of features that are not necessarily common in this price range for AR-15 rifles. All models of the M4-22 series that we have had in our hands – and there have been quite a few – are characterized by extremely low tolerances and tight fits. The upper and lower are absolutely free of play… and this remained the case with our test firearms even after many thousands of shots fired with the weapons, e.g., in IPSC, falling plate shooting, or similar applications.
And here we are at the next point, which is why we are absolute fans of the firearms from Fort Wayne: We have not experienced a single malfunction with our "Tippmanns"! And this is indeed to be regarded as an absolute quality criterion, as a perfect match between firearm and ammunition is often a prerequisite for functional reliability, especially in the area of rimfire semi-auto firearms. The Tippmann M4-22 fired all types of ammunition we have loaded so far, from the budget-friendly MAGTECH to more expensive ammunition types from RWS or SK Long Range.
Another innovative feature is the two-part magazine of the firearm. The magazine is equipped with a button that releases a slider, allowing the magazine spring to be tensioned. The individual rimfire cartridges no longer need to be "pressed" into the magazine during the loading process (which is often not easy with oiled or wax-coated cartridges) but can simply be "placed" into the magazine without pressure.
Last but not least: the Precision
In addition to the mentioned features, we are most impressed by the precision potential of the small semi-autos! When the Tippmann is equipped with a red dot with a magnifier or a scope and fired from a rest, it produces groups that are hardly inferior to those of a bolt-action rifle. The famous "1 cent piece" can be reliably held at 50 meters with the M4-22, and we were also able to achieve very good results at 100m with the SK Long Range. We are currently shooting the firearms in their original setup, meaning, for example, with a different trigger group (the standard trigger has about 2kg trigger weight), so even more is certainly possible. The shooting performance of the rifles is therefore more than impressive, and we will stretch the distances a bit more in the course of further tests.

Tippmann Arms ist die Referenz wenn es Kleinkaliber Selbstlader im AR-15 Style geht. Die Produktpalette reicht von einfach gehaltenen Modellen, wie sie zum „Plinking“ auf beispielsweise Stahlgongs genutuzt werden bis hin zu wettkampftauglichen Modellen. So ist Tippmann mit Modellen der M4-22 Serie auch im dynamischen Schießsport, wie IPSC in der Kategorie Mini Rifle vertreten.
Tippmann Arms ist eine feste Größe im Paintballsport und hat über die vergangenen Jahre erhebliche Investitionen im Bereich erlaubnispflichtige Feuerwaffen getätigt. Der Hersteller hat eine sehr hohe interne Wertschöpfung so dass nahezu alle Herstellungsteile der AR-15 Plafform im Unternehmen selbst hergestellt und verbaut werden. Die sorgt für geringste Toleranzen und einen in diesem Preissegment konkurrenzlosen Qualitätsstandard. Die Verarbeitung von Metall- und Kunststoffteilen ist erstklassig und die Waffen insgesamt sehr wertig. Der freischwingende Leichtmetall-Handschutz ist äußerst stabil konzipiert ist und fest mit dem Upper Receiver verbunde.
Unsere Erfahrungen mit den Tippmann Arms AR-15 Modellen
Die Kleinkaliberwaffen von Tippmann erlauben einen preiswerten Einstieg in das dynamische Langwaffenschießen. Dabei bringen sie noch eine Menge Features mit, die in dieser Preisklasse bei AR-15 Gewehren nicht unbedingt üblich sind. Alle Modelle der M4-22 Serie, die wir bisher in den Händen hatten – und das waren nicht wenige – zeichneten sich doch äußert geringe Toleranzen und enge Passungen aus. Upper und Lower sind absolut spielfrei verbunden…und das blieb auch bei unseren Testwaffen so nach bereits vielen tausend Schuss, die mit den Waffen, z.B. beim IPSC, Klappfallscheibenschießen oder ähnlichen Anwendungen abgegeben wurden.
Und da sind wir auch schon beim nächsten Punkt, weswegen wir ein absoluter Fan der Waffen aus Fort Wayne sind: Wir hatten mit unseren „Tippmännern“ noch keine einzige Funktionsstörung! Und das ist tatsächlich als ein absolutes Qualitätskriterium zu werten, da gerade im Bereich Kleinkaliber Semi-Auto Waffen sehr häufig eine perfekte Abstimmung von Waffe und Munition als Voraussetzung für Funktionssicherheit gilt. Der Tippmann M4-22 verschoss bei uns sämtliche bisher geladene Munitionssorten, von der preisgünstigen MAGTECH bis zu teureren Munitionssorten von RWS oder der SK Long Range.
Ein weiteres, innovatives Feature ist das zweiteilige Magazin der Waffe. So ist das Magazin mit einem Knopf ausgestattet, der einen Schieber freigibt, mit dem die Magazinfeder gespannt werden kann. Die einzelnen KK-Patronen müssen daraufhin beim Ladevorgang nicht mehr in das Magazin „gedrückt“ werden (was gerade bei geölten oder wachsbeschichteten Patronen oft nicht einfach ist) sondern können ohne Druck einfach in das Magazin „gelegt“ werden.
Last but not least: die Präzision
Neben den genannten Features sind wir jedoch am meisten vom Präzisionspotential der kleinen Selbstlader begeistert! Wird die Tippmann beispielsweise mit einem Red Dot mit Magnifier oder einem Zielfernrohr ausgestattet und aufgelegt geschossen ergeben sich Streukreise, die einem Repetiergewehr kaum nachstehen. Das berühmte „1 Cent Stück“ wird mit der M4-22 auf 50 Meter sicher gehalten und auch auf 100m konnten wir mit der SK Long Range sehr gute Ergebnisse erzielen. Dabei schießen wir die Waffen aktuell noch im Original-Setup, d.h. z.B. mit einer anderen Abzugsgruppe (der Standard-Abzug hat in etwa 2kg Abzugsgewicht) ist sicher nochmal mehr möglich. Die Schussleistung der Gewehre kann sich also mehr als sehen lassen und wir werden im Verlauf weiterer Tests, die Distanzen noch ein wenig „stretchen“.
