Bore Tech X-Count Patches: clean feedback instead of patch lottery
A good cleaning patch should evenly carry cleaner, absorb deposits, and provide reproducible feedback on the last dry pass. That’s exactly what the square X-Count Patches made of 100% cotton flannel in graduated sizes are designed for.
Important before buying: It’s not just the caliber that matters. Patch size, jag or patch loop, and the desired fit must match. That’s why you’ll find not only sizes here but a real selection guide.
Choose the right size

Our honest assessment

The X-Count Patches aren’t a spectacular accessory – but it’s exactly these small components that decide whether barrel cleaning is controlled or unnecessarily tedious. Bore Tech relies on double-napped cotton flannel with uniform material thickness and high absorption capacity
t.
The biggest advantage comes from a system with a properly sized Jag or Loop. Patches that are too small fit too loosely and don’t use the surface well; patches that are too large can jam unnecessarily. That’s why we don’t sell the sizes as a universal solution but assign them according to caliber and application.

Works well if … … you want to build your barrel cleaning reproducibly and consciously coordinate patch, Jag, and cleaner.
… you prefer cotton flannel with good absorption for wet, control, and dry patches.
… you clean regularly and want to stock up on consumables with the larger packs.

Less suitable if … … you’re looking for a universal patch that fits the same regardless of caliber and Jag.
… you want to push an already tight Jag-patch setup through the barrel with even more force.
… you expect a complete cleaning set – rod, bore guide, Jag, brush, and cleaner must be chosen separately.

Which X-Count size fits?
The variants in the shop follow the Bore-Tech/supplier assignment. Overlaps are not a mistake: different Jags and the desired fit can make an adjacent patch size useful.

250, 500 or 1000 pcs?

250 pcs – sensible for starting out The right choice if you want to test one size first with your Jag system, stock several calibers separately, or only clean occasionally.

1000 pcs – for regular use Those who clean frequently after training, hunting, or competition quickly use several patches with a full chemical-mechanical routine. The bulk pack reduces repurchases and keeps the routine consistent.

3" special case: This size is currently offered in 250 or 500 pcs. The decisive factor remains the right size first – not the largest pack.

Instructor and user tips

1. Don’t force patch fit A patch should pass through the barrel with controlled resistance but not jam. If the combination is too tight, first check size and Jag. Bore Tech recommends, for certain Jag systems, an alternative slightly off-center skewering (“Side Spiking”) instead of forcing the patch.

2. Standardize cleaning routine Use a similar amount of cleaner and a consistent number of wet and dry patches for comparable cleanings. This makes the color and dirt on the control patch truly meaningful.

3. Assess copper cleaners correctly With copper-removing cleaners, classic brass tools can cause a blue reaction themselves. The Proof-Positive Rifle Jag and Proof-Positive Patch Loop reduce this error source in the Bore-Tech system.

4. Don’t skimp on patches Don’t reuse a visibly dirty patch as a control patch. Fresh consumables separate the individual cleaning steps and make progress easier to assess.

How a coherent Bore-Tech cleaning system is created

Guide and cleaning rod For centerfire repeaters, a suitable Bore Guide protects the working direction. The Proof-Positive Bore Stix complements the system with a cleaning rod designed for barrel cleaning.

Jag or Loop For controlled surface contact, caliber-matched Proof-Positive components are recommended: Rifle Jag, Pistol Jag, or Patch Loop.

All-round cleaner The Bore Tech Eliminator is
the broadly positioned chemical base when carbon and copper residues are to be processed in a routine.

Special cleaners For targeted work, C4 Carbon Remover is available for carbon and Cu+2 Copper Remover for more stubborn copper deposits.

Black-Raptor buying guide: which combination makes sense?

For .22 LR / rimfire: The 1" variant is listed as .20 Cal. / .22 RF. Combine it with a suitable Jag or Loop and a cleaner suitable for rimfire.
For .223 / 5.56 mm: The 1 1/8" variant is listed for .22 centerfire. With a tight fit, always consider the specific Jag system.
For .308 / .30: In the range, 1 3/4" and 2" overlap. This is exactly where the Jag geometry matters. With a caliber-matched Bore-Tech Jag, we would initially base the manufacturer assignment of the specific Jag rather than generally recommending "bigger is better."
For multiple calibers: Better to stock two correctly fitting sizes than to force one patch for everything. It costs a little more but significantly improves repeatability.

Further Black-Raptor guides
If you want to put together your entire setup, first read “Choosing the right barrel cleaning kit: Rod, Guide, Jag, and Patch.” For copper-removing cleaners, “Blue patches after copper cleaner: copper or tool?” is also important. We explain the difference between the cleaners in the comparison “Bore-Tech barrel cleaners: Eliminator, C4, and Cu+2.”

Safety and care
Perform cleaning work only on a safely unloaded firearm and according to the manufacturer's instructions for the firearm. Use patch, Jag, and cleaning rod without force. Do not mix cleaning chemicals uncontrollably. Before the next shooting, ensure that barrel and chamber are free of patches, excess cleaning agent, and other foreign objects.

FAQ about Bore Tech X-Count patches
Which patch size is intended for .22 LR? The 1" variant is listed in the range for .20 Cal. and .22 RF, i.e., rimfire. The actual fit also depends on the Jag or Loop used. Which size is intended for .223 / 5.56 mm? The 1 1/8" variant is designed for .22 centerfire. With a very tight combination, do not use force but check patch/Jag fit. Which size do I take for .308? .308 is listed in the available assignments for both 1 3/4" and in the 2" patch range. The geometry of the specific Jag is decisive. Therefore, the patch size should be matched to the Bore-Tech tool used. Why can a patch turn blue after copper cleaner? Blue can indicate dissolved copper. Brass-containing Jags or Loops can react themselves with strong copper cleaners and thus distort the assessment. Bore Tech offers Proof-Positive components without this typical brass reaction. What does “Side Spiking” mean? With a too tight Jag-patch setup, the patch is slightly off-center instead of exactly centered when spiked. This can reduce the effective material amount on the Jag. G
Basically, the right patch and jag size remain the better starting solution. Are 1000 pieces always the better choice? Only if the size already fits perfectly and you clean regularly. For a new caliber or unknown jag system, a 250-pack is often more economical.

Black Raptor · categorized from a user perspective
The right patch is a consumable – but not a trivial one. When size, jag, bore guide, and cleaner match, barrel cleaning becomes more reproducible, easier to assess, and significantly less frustrating.
That’s why we don’t automatically recommend the largest pack or the biggest patch, but the option that fits your caliber, tools, and cleaning routine. (Show description in original language)

Laufreinigung · Baumwollflanell · kalibergerecht

Was bedeutet „Side Spiking“?
