Compact Thermal Imaging Observation
ThermTec Cyclone 325 – compact, but not designed for maximum wide-angle reserve
The ThermTec Cyclone 325 combines a 384×288 sensor with a 25mm F1.0 lens, 2.4x base magnification, and a handy housing. This keeps the device quickly accessible during your hunting grounds walk but offers more detail reserve than a very wide-angle 15mm model.
Important for classification: It is a handheld monocular – not a clip-on device and not a laser rangefinder.
Choosing the right thermal imaging technology

Our honest assessment

The Cyclone 325 makes sense when low packing size and a usable medium observation distance are needed together. The 18.4-meter wide field of view at 100 meters remains manageable in the forest and at the field edge, while the 2.4x base magnification shows details larger than the Cyclone 315.
Its limit is also clear: The 4x digital zoom enlarges existing pixels but does not create new image details. The manufacturer’s specification of 1,300 meters describes a standardized detection distance – not the distance at which game can be reliably identified or every situation reliably assessed.

Fits well if …
you want a lightweight handheld device for hunting grounds walks, stand hunting, forest, baiting, or
If you’re looking for field edge, prefer interchangeable batteries, and mostly observe at short to medium distances with 2.4× base magnification.

Probably not a fit if …
you need an especially wide near-field view, a real laser rangefinder, a 640 sensor reserve, or a mountable clip-on device.

Features with practical impact

384×288 · 12 µm · NETD <20 mK The combination is designed for fine separation of small temperature differences. This helps especially on mild, humid nights or wet vegetation, but doesn’t replace clean focusing or a clear line of sight.

25 mm F1.0 With an 18.4 × 13.8 m field of view at 100 m, game appears larger at medium distance than with the wider-angle Cyclone 315. In dense cover, more controlled panning is required.

50 Hz Moving heat sources and pans appear smooth. This makes scanning more comfortable but doesn’t alone determine image quality.

Interchangeable 18650 battery One battery is rated by the manufacturer for up to ten hours; two included batteries extend the reserve. Cold, display brightness, hotspot, and recordings can shorten runtime.

Limits, disadvantages, and avoiding bad purchases

Digital zoom is not additional sensor resolution. If you regularly need to assess very small details at longer distances, you benefit more from higher native sensor resolution or a different lens class.
AI Distance Measurement is not laser measurement. The function estimates based on recognized target sizes and is no substitute for a real LRF if reliable distance info is crucial for purchase decisions.
The 325 is not automatically “better” than the 315. More base magnification also means less field of view. In dense near range, the 315 can therefore be the more sensible choice.

User tips

Focus first, then zoom The optics are manually focused. First set the lens and diopters cleanly. Use digital zoom only afterward – otherwise, a blurry image just gets bigger.

Don’t confuse detection with reliable identification A heat signature can be visible much earlier than species, individual, or situation can be reliably recognized. Distance, weather, vegetation, and experience strongly affect usable detail performance.

Use AI distance only as an estimate Without laser measurement, the result remains model- and situation-dependent. For decisions requiring exact distance, the function is no LRF replacement.

Take battery and lens care seriously Use suitable 18650 batteries correctly and transport dry; clean the germanium lens only dust-free and with a suitable cloth, don’t rub dry.

Cyclone 325 or Cyclone 315?

Both models operate with 384×288 pixels, 12 µm, 50 Hz, and interchangeable battery. The Cyclone 325 uses 25 mm for 2.4× base magnification, 18.4 m field width, and 1,300 m manufacturer detection range. The ThermTec Cyclone 315 uses 15 mm, 1.4× base magnification, 30.7 m field width, and 750 m detection range.
Practical decision: The 315 is better for quick scanning in near range and dense cover. The 325 shows targets larger at medium distance but requires a bit more panning. Neither has a real laser rangefinder.

Technical data with practical interpretation

Sensor 384×288 pixels, 12 µm, spectral range 8–14 µm. Solid detail base in the compact 384 class.

Thermal sensitivity NETD <20 mK according to manufacturer data. Relevant at low temperature contrasts.

Lens & focus 25 mm F1.0, manually focusable. Good light intake but requires conscious refocusing.

Field of view & magnification 10.5° × 7.9° or 18.4 × 13.8 m at 100 m; 2.4× optical, digital 1×/2×/4×.

Image & display 50 Hz, 0.39-inch AMOLED with 1024×768 pixels, six palettes plus forest, target
- and outline mode.

Recording & Connectivity 32 GB storage, photo and video with sound, USB-C as well as hotspot and control via the ThermTec Outdoor app.

Power Replaceable, rechargeable 18650 Li-Ion battery; up to 10 hours per battery under manufacturer conditions.

Dimensions & Weight 135 × 76 × 54 mm; 261 g without battery. The ready-to-use weight is correspondingly higher.

Protection & Temperature IP67 and operating range from −20 to +50 °C. After moisture, dry and keep connections clean.

Model Cyclone 325. Model designation deliberately subtle; the 25 mm / 2.4× variant is decisive.

Scope of delivery
ThermTec Cyclone 325, USB cable, charger/charging cradle, two 18650 lithium-ion batteries, cleaning cloth and user manual. A pouch or lens cover is not guaranteed in the confirmed scope of delivery.

Safety, Operation and Care

The Cyclone 325 is described as a handheld observation device. It is neither a clip-on nor a sighting device. Check battery, polarity and charge status before longer use and switch off hotspot or recording when you don’t need them.
Store device and spare batteries dry and protected against short circuits. After rain, let surface and connections dry. For suitable accessories, check the ThermTec and Hunting & Territory sections.

FAQ
Does the Cyclone 325 have a laser rangefinder? No. The “AI Distance Measurement” function estimates distances algorithmically. There is no integrated laser rangefinder.
Is the Cyclone 325 a clip-on device? No. It is a handheld thermal monocular for observation and not designed for mounting as a clip-on or sighting device.
What does the range specification of 1,300 meters mean? It describes the manufacturer’s detection distance for a defined target. Detecting a heat source is not the same as reliably identifying game at this distance.
How long do the batteries last? ThermTec states up to ten hours per 18650 battery; two batteries theoretically provide up to 20 hours. Cold, display, Wi-Fi and recordings can reduce actual runtime.
Is the 325 better than the Cyclone 315? Not generally. The 325 offers more base magnification and range reserve. The 315 shows significantly more surroundings at 30.7 meters at 100 meters and can be detected faster in dense cover.
Can I transfer recordings? Yes. The device stores photos and videos with sound on 32 GB; USB-C and the hotspot for the ThermTec Outdoor app support transfer and control.

Black Raptor · honestly assessed
Technology should make decisions easier outdoors – not just impress on the data sheet.
That’s why we name both the strong balance of compactness, sensitivity and medium range as well as the limits of the 384 sensor, digital zoom and AI distance estimation in the Cyclone 325. (Show description in original language)
