A Shirasaya Katana is a special type of sword traditionally used in Japan. The term Shirasaya refers to a specific sword mounting that was previously used for the gentle storage of the blade. Especially in times of peace, the blades were optimally protected in this manner. It consists of a simple, uncoated wooden scabbard (Saya) and a wooden handle (Tsuka), which serve to store and protect the sword without damaging it. Shirasaya are often used for katanas that are not actively used, but rather as collector's items or for storing valuable blades. Ein Shirasaya Katana ist eine spezielle Art von Schwert, das in Japan traditionell verwendet wird. Als Shirasaya bezeichnet man eine spezielle Schwert-Montierung, welche früher zur schonenden Aufbewahrung der Klinge genutzt wurde.
