The special feature of this projectile is the famous H-groove, a constriction shaped as a predetermined breaking point in the middle of the jacket. It supports the separation of the two cores of different hardness and is partly responsible for the dual action system of the projectile: The front part disintegrates very quickly upon impact with the game body, releasing strong energy – for maximum effectiveness. The cylindrical rear part separates at the H-groove, penetrating strong game bodies without significant deformation and thus reliably delivering the desired exit wound. The suction effect of the rear part ensures that the fragments of the front core mostly leave the game body.

Besonderheit dieses Geschosses ist die berühmte H-Rille, eine als Sollbruchstelle geformte Einschnürung in der Mitte des Mantels. Sie unterstützt die Trennung der zwei Geschosskerne unterschiedlicher Härte und ist mitverantwortlich für das duale Wirkungssystem des Geschosses: Der vordere Teil zerlegt sich nach dem Auftreffen im Wildkörper sehr rasch unter starker Energieabgabe – für höchste Wirksamkeit. Der zylindrische Heckteil trennt sich an der H-Rille ab, durchschlägt ohne nennenswerte Deformation auch starke Wildkörper und liefert so zuverlässig den gewünschten Ausschuss. Die Sogwirkung des Heckteils sorgt dafür, dass die Fragmente des vorderen Kerns den Wildkörper größtenteils verlassen.
