By Mathias Vogdrup-Schmidt Hunting dogs are inextricably linked to hunting in Denmark and have therefore always been part of many of the hunting disciplines and facets. The preferred breeds have been different over time and have been adapted to existing hunting opportunities.
In addition, the development and spread of hunting and hunting gear has played a crucial role in the dogs' tasks and application to hunting and therefore breeding. This book describes 36 of the most common breeds in Denmark divided into groups on the basis of their hunting use.
The groups are as follows: dusters, short-term stray dogs, burrowing dogs, offensive dogs, retrieving dogs, standing dogs and welding dogs. In addition to the most common hunting dog breeds, lesser breeds from abroad and breeds that could eventually contribute to hunting in Denmark are also presented.
The book is dedicated to hunters and dog handlers, experienced as new, and provides an overview of the breeds in order to be able to compare them within and across groups.
