The Russian Mosin wz. 1891 was the standard long gun issued to the Tsarist army before and during World War I. Many improved designs followed, including the 1891/30, which was more popular during the second German-Russian conflict.
History
After trials of several different repeating rifle designs, Russia adopted a new standard infantry rifle in 1891. It fires the 7,62x54r cartridge and combines designs by Russian Sergei Mosin and Belgian Léon Nagant, whose main contribution was the magazine and feeding system. Its official Russian designation is “Three-Line Rifle, Model of the Year 1891,” but in the US it is better known as the Mosin Nagant M91. A “line” is a unit of measurement equal to 1/10 of an inch. M91 rifles were produced at Russian arsenals in Izhevsk, Tula, and Sestroretsk. Due to the slow start of domestic production, a contract was signed with the French arms manufacturer Chatellerault, which built around 500,000 M91 rifles. During World War I, contracts were awarded to the New England companies Westinghouse and Remington for 1.8 and 1.5 million rifles, respectively. M91 rifles were widely used during World War I and can be found with markings from many different European countries that bought or captured them.
The example shown was manufactured in Irzewsk in 1898.
The firearm is in very good condition; the barrel bore is slightly tarnished.

Rosyjski Mosin wz. 1891 to podstawowa broń długa na wyposażeniu armii Carskiej, przed i w czasie I wojny światowej. W późniejszym okresie powstawało wiele ulepszonych konstrukcji – w tym 1891/30 – popularniejszy podczas drugiego konfliktu Niemiecko-Rosyjskiego.
Historia
„Linia” to jednostka miary równa 1/10 cala.
Prezentowany egzemplarz wyprodukowano w Irzewsku w 1898r.
Broń zachowana w bardzo ładnym stanie, przewód lufy trochę zaśniedziały.
