Karabin PKM, kal. 7.62x54mmR [M6143]

Karabin maszynowy PKM (Pulemiot Kałasznikowa Modernizirowannyj) to radziecki uniwersalny karabin maszynowy opracowany w biurze konstrukcyjnym Michaiła Kałasznikowa. Jego historia sięga końca lat 50. XX wieku, kiedy w ZSRR poszukiwano jednej, uniwersalnej broni zdolnej zastąpić zarówno ręczne, jak i ciężkie karabiny maszynowe. Prototyp oznaczony jako PK został przyjęty do uzbrojenia w 1961 roku.

W 1969 roku wprowadzono zmodernizowaną wersję PKM, w której zastosowano lżejsze materiały i uproszczoną technologię produkcji (m.in. tłoczenie elementów), co pozwoliło zmniejszyć masę broni i zwiększyć jej mobilność bez pogorszenia parametrów bojowych.

PKM szybko stał się podstawowym karabinem maszynowym armii państw Układu Warszawskiego, a później rozpowszechnił się na całym świecie. Do dziś uchodzi za jedną z najbardziej niezawodnych i uniwersalnych konstrukcji tego typu, pozostając w użyciu w wielu krajach mimo upływu kilkudziesięciu lat od jego wprowadzenia.
