In the following article, we introduce you to the Schloß Eichicht hunting school. This is a very special hunting school that has recently been run by Catharina and Max Buchholz. Catharina and Max acquired Schloß Eichicht in 2015 and renovated it in stages until 2019 in line with its listed status. In 2020, the couple founded Schloß Eichicht GmbH & Co. KG in order to build up commercial operations around Schloß Eichicht so that future surpluses from the businesses can help preserve the cultural monument. In the first step, they started their own game farm in 2020. The second step was to open the Schloß Eichicht hunting school in the fall of 2022.

For these two branches of the business, they rebuilt a historic barn on the castle grounds (from 2020 to October 2022) as a listed building. In this new building, they have already housed a local farm store, an office, the game butchery with integrated butchery with EU approval and the hunting school. The young couple have now been able to create 2 new jobs subject to social insurance contributions.

The hunting school:

Hunting license in a compact course. In the new training building on the castle grounds, they will be offering compact courses for obtaining a hunting license from 03.10.2022. Schloss Eichicht is surrounded by a 482 ha small game reserve, 75% (364 ha) of which serves as a training area.

One step out of the training building and you are right in the hunting ground. In addition to black and roe deer, mouflon and red deer as well as fox, hare, badger and raccoon can be hunted here. Follow the tracks of the forest animals and experience hunting practice directly on site. 306 hectares of the beautiful Gösselsdorf big game hunting ground are also available. The Gösselsdorf hunting ground is known nationwide for its red deer population. In addition to the most important training room - the nature - lessons take place in the training building, which was completely rebuilt in 2022. The latest technology and modern equipment offer you the best conditions for learning with a view of the castle. With illustrative learning boards and animal specimens, you can also continue learning automatically during breaks. Hot and cold drinks are available free of charge in the new tea kitchen.As part of the castle ensemble, the training building stands high up on the mountain spur above the Loquitz-Saale estuary on the edge of the village of Eichicht and promises peace and seclusion in the middle of nature - your training area. In January 2024, 3 very nice apartments were furnished in the castle so that hunting students can also stay overnight at Eichicht Castle. Game meat farm:

Game meat - a real treat from nature - this is what Dr. Catharina Buchholz and Max Buchholz have promised themselves: "At a time when the extent of intensive animal husbandry with its consequences for the environment, resources, the economy, people and animals is becoming increasingly clear, we want to open up the market for healthy and sustainable meat." Wildbrethandel Schloss Eichicht was founded in 2020 with the aim of offering regional venison from Thuringia nationwide as a real alternative to meat products produced in industrial livestock farming. The newly built production area on the castle grounds went into operation at the end of September 2022.
