Mauser C96 – M712 Schnellfeuer
Negli anni Trenta vennero sviluppate varianti moderne della Mauser C96 con caricatore rimovibile e fuoco selettivo: le spagnole Beistegui Hermanos e Astra iniziarono la produzione rispettivamente nel 1927 e nel 1928, mentre la Mauser lanciò il proprio modello Schnellfeuer — progettato dall’ingegnere Karl Westinger — tra il 1932 e il 1938. Il progetto ebbe un notevole successo, con circa 98.000 esemplari prodotti e una serie matricolare autonoma; gran parte della produzione fu destinata all’esportazione in Sud America e in Cina e impiegata nella guerra civile spagnola.
Tra il 1932 e il 1935 l’esercito jugoslavo testò lotti di Schnellfeuer sia in 7,63 mm sia in 9×19.
Nel 1939 le forze armate tedesche adottarono il modello con la denominazione militare “Reihenfeuer Pistole Modell 712”, impiegandolo presso unità di polizia militare della Wehrmacht, le Waffen‑SS, la Kriegsmarine (per la fanteria di marina) e la Luftwaffe (per reparti antiaerei). Sono noti circa 7.800 esemplari compresi nell’intervallo matricolare 83.000–93.000 (esemplare citato: 91772).
L’arma con canna da 5,5 pollici, tacca di mira posteriore graduata da 50 a 1.000 metri e l’attacco per un calciolo/fondina in legno. Si distingue dalla C96 standard per il caricatore rimovibile e il selettore di fuoco sul lato sinistro del telaio, segnato con “N” (Normalfeuer, fuoco singolo) e “Reihenfeuer” (raffica). In modalità completamente automatica la cadenza è di circa 900 colpi al minuto, rendendola difficile da controllare senza il calciolo. L’esemplare descritto è in ottime condizioni di canna, meccanica e funzionamento ed è un autentico pezzo da collezione, classificato per uso sportivo (24_00010ds1).
