"Tactical" is a magic word in the USA and "Long Range" even more so. The country is vast, and in rural areas, long-range shooting ranges are very popular.
600 yards (540 m) shooting ranges are quite common. Ruger was the first to recognize the trend that a tactical long gun, which bears some resemblance to AR15 rifles, could be popular. The market gap that Ruger has opened up is huge, and the demand is great. The Ruger Precision Rifle not only shoots accurately but is also highly adjustable and can be tailored to the shooter!
The weapon looks a bit like an AR15 but is purely a bolt-action rifle. Many components, such as the fore-end and buttstock, are designed so that AR-15 parts can be used. The barrel attachment also corresponds to that of the AR-10/AR-15.
Currently, precise interchangeable barrels are already offered by Shilen. The weapon is also very well received in Germany because, in addition to its appearance, the many adjustment options, and not least the price, are very attractive.
What is special about the Ruger Precision Rifle is that two different magazine types can be used. Both AI (Accuracy International) type magazines and magazines for AR10 weapons fit into the magazine well and are locked there.
The recoil goes directly and straight into the buttstock, which is referred to in English as "In-Line." The trigger length (from buttstock to trigger) is adjustable, as is the cheek rest. The weapon has a folding stock, making it easy to access the bolt and remove it.
The barrel is completely free and can thus oscillate freely. Ruger uses the 5-R field groove profile for the first time here, which was originally developed by Boots Obermeyer and is now also used by quality companies like Krieger.
At the muzzle, the barrel has a diameter of 19 mm. A bolt with three locking lugs and an opening angle of about 70° is used. Together with the tactical oversized bolt handle, this greatly facilitates cycling the action.
Standard is a Picatinny rail with a forward tilt installed, allowing shooting at distances up to 1,000 m and beyond. The trigger is adjustable between 1,020 g and 2,270 g.
In contrast to the second generation, the handguard has M-LOK cutouts (instead of the previous Key-Mod), the safety is ambidextrous, and the bolt body is nitrided.

600 Yards (540 m) Schießstände sind recht verbreitet. Ruger hat den Trend zuerst erkannt, dass eine taktische Langwaffe, die eine gewisse Ähnlichkeit mit den AR15 Gewehren hat, populär sein könnte. Die Marktlücke, die Ruger aufgetan hat ist riesig und der Bedarf groß. Die Ruger Precision Rifle schießt nicht nur präzise, sondern ist auch vielfach verstellbar und kann so dem Schützen angepasst werden!
Die Waffe sieht ein wenig AR15-mäßig aus, ist aber eine reine Repetierbüchse. Viele Anbauteile wie z. B. Vorder- und Hinterschaft sind so ausgelegt, dass AR-15 Teile verwendet werden können. Auch die Laufbefestigung entspricht der gleichen wie beim AR-10/AR-15.
Mittlerweile werden von Shilen bereits präzise Wechselläufe angeboten. Auch in Deutschland kommt die Waffe sehr gut an, weil neben dem Aussehen auch die vielen Einstellmöglichkeiten, und nicht zuletzt auch der Preis sehr attraktiv sind.
Das Besondere an der Ruger Precision Rifle ist, dass zwei verschiedene Magazintypen verwendet werden können. Sowohl Magazine des Typs AI (Accuracy International) als auch Magazine für AR10 Waffen passen in den Magazinschacht und werden dort verriegelt.
Der Rückstoß geht direkt und gerade in den Hinterschaft, was man auf Englisch als "In-Line" bezeichnet. Die Abzugslänge (von Hinterschaft bis zum Abzug) ist verstellbar, ebenso die Wangenauflage. Die Waffe hat einen Klappschaft, damit man leicht an den Verschluss rankommt und diesen auch rausnehmen kann.
Der Lauf liegt völlig frei und kann somit frei schwingen. Ruger verwendet hier erstmalig das 5-R Feld-Zug-Profil, welches ursprünglich von Boots Obermeyer entwickelt wurde und inzwischen auch von Qualitätsfirmen wie Krieger verwendet wird.
An der Mündung hat der Lauf einen Durchmesser von 19 mm. Zur Anwendung kommt ein Verschluss mit drei Verriegelungswarzen und einem Öffnungswinkel von ca. 70°. Zusammen mit dem tactical-mäßigen, übergroßen Kammerstengel erleichtert dies das Repetieren ungemein.
Serienmäßig ist eine Picatinny-Schiene mit Vorneigung installiert, sodass auch auf Entfernungen bis 1.000 m und darüber hinaus geschossen werden kann. Der Abzug ist zwischen 1.020 g und 2.270 g einstellbar.
Im Gegensatz zur zweiten Generation hat der Handschutz M-LOK Aussparungen (statt bisher Key-Mod), die Sicherung ist beidseitig bedienbar und der Verschlusskörper ist nitridbeschichtet.
