La différence principale entre un rail Picatinny et un rail Weaver, c’est la standardisation des encoches. Un rail Picatinny est normalisé : les encoches sont plus larges et surtout toujours espacées régulièrement. C’est le standard moderne le plus courant pour les armes, optiques, colliers, montages, lampes, bipieds, etc. Un rail Weaver est plus ancien : les encoches sont souvent plus étroites et leur espacement peut varier selon les fabricants.
