La pistola Parabellum o modello 1908 (P08), popolarmente conosciuta come Luger, è una pistola semiautomatica azionata dal rinculo, che sopravvisse alle restrizioni del trattato di Versailles. Utilizza una slitta interna, azionata da un braccio articolato, in contrasto con la slitta esterna comune in quasi tutte le altre pistole semiautomatiche.
È stato progettato da Georg Luger nel 1898 e prodotto da tedesco fabbrica di armi Deutsche WaffenundMunitionsfabriken (DWM) rispetto all’anno 1900.Durante anni di vita del Luger P08 passa per le mani di diversi produttori, che erano responsabili per la produzione di più di un milione di unità di questa mitica pistola che ha segnato un prima e un dopo nella storia delle armi leggere.
Sebbene i primi modelli siano stati prodotti in calibro 7.65×21 Parabellum, il suo modello del 1908 è famoso per essere la pistola per la quale è stata sviluppata la cartuccia 9×19 Parabellum. La denominazione Parabellum deriva da un antico detto latino “Su vis pacem, para bellum” (“Se vuoi la pace, preparati per la guerra”).
La pistola Parabellum Luger divenne molto popolare grazie al suo uso da parte della Germania durante la prima e la seconda guerra mondiale e fu una pistola molto ambita dai soldati per tutto il ventesimo secolo.
