Clean flash holes start on the inside of the case. When punching the flash hole, burrs can remain there. The REDDING 06100 is inserted from the case mouth and removes these burrs in a controlled manner. Its integrated shoulder stop rests against the inner case base; this means the cutting depth is not determined by the case length.
The tool is designed for cases from .22 to .338 with a standard flash hole of .080″. This exact combination is the crucial purchase check: For .17/.20 or cases with a small .060″ flash hole, this universal model is not intended, but rather the separate REDDING Small Tool.

Why this step can make sense
A burr of varying size can change the free cross-section and shape around the flash hole from case to case. The universal flash hole deburring tool removes the internal interfering edge without having to adjust the cutting depth every time according to the case length. This is especially interesting for reloaders who want to prepare a batch of cases as uniformly as possible.
It remains important to have a realistic assessment: The tool does not replace clean load development, sorting, case neck work, or flash hole work. It is a targeted case processing tool – not a promise for smaller group sizes with every load.

Buying advice: Does the tool fit your cases?

Not the right choice

Caliber range

.17 and .20

Flash hole diameter
Standard .080″
Small .060″ flash hole

Work goal
Remove internal manufacturing burr at the flash hole
Work on flash cone, ream flash hole, or trim case length

Processing
Empty, unfired case
Loaded or primed
derte case

Avoid bad purchases: The caliber specification alone is not enough. Also check the actual flash hole type of your case. Some modern cases in common calibers are made with a small flash hole; the 06100 is not intended for this despite the matching caliber size.

Integrated stop instead of case length reference
In the universal model, the stop rests on the inner case base and thus controls the cutting depth. This distinguishes it from the REDDING Small Tool 06110 for .17/.20 and .060″ flash holes: For this small tool, the manufacturer explicitly points out that it does not limit the cutting depth itself and the cases must therefore be trimmed evenly beforehand.
The caliber-specific pilot stop mainly serves to center the case neck in the universal tool. According to the manufacturer’s instructions, it can only be set as a guide if desired; the cutting depth is controlled by the built-in shoulder stop. Additional pilot stops are available separately.

Application in case processing

Only process completely empty and unfired cases. Illuminate the workspace and wear safety glasses.
Position the matching pilot stop with the knurled side towards the handle on the mandrel.
Guide the cutter through the case mouth until its tip enters the flash hole.
Push the pilot up to the case mouth and fix the set screw so that the tool is properly centered.
Turn the cutter clockwise with light pressure. The integrated stop limits the working depth.
Pull out the tool, remove chips and check the flash hole from the inside.

More pressure does not mean more precision. The goal is solely to cleanly remove the existing burr. Once the stop rests and the burr is removed, do not remove any more material.

Practical tips for consistent results

Process a matching batch of cases in one operation; this keeps handling and control reproducible.
Check a case with suitable lighting before starting so you can see how strong the original burr actually is.
Regularly clean the tool and relief hole of brass chips. Accumulated chips worsen the feel at the stop.
Do not misunderstand the pilot stop as a depth stop. On the 06100 it centers; the depth is controlled by the inner shoulder stop.
Do not force if there is resistance: first check flash hole size, case type, centering, and chip deposits.

Scope of delivery and clear distinction
The reliable manufacturer designation is Universal Flash Hole Deburring Tool w/handle, Item 06100. This includes the universal flash hole deburring tool with handle. The current Brownells-DE product page does not explicitly list a caliber-specific pilot stop as included; therefore, a specific pilot is not guaranteed here. Required or additional REDDING pilot stops for 3/16″ mandrels are available separately.
Not included and not replaced are case trimmers, primer pocket tools, flash hole gauges, or the REDDING Small Tool for .060″ flash holes.

FAQ about the REDDING 06100
For which calibers is the tool suitable? For cases from .22 to .338, provided they have a standard flash hole with a .080″ diameter.
Can I use it to process .17 or .20 caliber cases? No. REDDING provides the Small Tool 06110 for this. It is also designed for cases with a small .060″ flash hole.
Does the 06100 fit small-flash-hole cases? No. Even if the caliber is in the range .22 to .338, the universal model is explicitly intended for .080″ standard flash holes. The separate Small Tool is required for .060″.
Must
Should the cases be trimmed to exactly the same length before deburring? For the universal model, the cutting depth is controlled by the integrated stop on the inside of the case head, not by the case mouth. Uniform case length is therefore not the depth reference for this tool. For the small 06110, the manufacturer specifies a different procedure.
What is the purpose of the pilot stop? It centers the 3/16″ mandrel in the case neck. According to the instructions, it can be set as a pure guide on the universal model; the cutting depth is controlled by the built-in shoulder stop.
In which direction is the cutting done? REDDING specifies a clockwise rotation. Apply only light pressure and pay attention to the built-in stop.
Can I work on primed cases? No. The official instructions require an unprimed case. Loaded or primed cases do not belong on this tool.
Does the deburrer replace a flash hole uniformer? No. The 06100 removes the internal burr at the flash hole. Flash hole depth and diameter are a separate step and require the appropriate tool. (Show description in original language)

REDDING 06100 · Zündloch-Entgrater
