Single-stage press · for large dies and ELR setups
FORSTER Co-Ax XL: Precision press for 7/8″ and 1-1/4″ dies
The Co-Ax XL expands the floating jaw and quick-change system of the classic Co-Ax with more space and leverage. The most important buying check: It has no integrated primer seating system and requires FORSTER adapter rings and jaws matching the die.

For large long-range cartridges and demanding single-stage work, the welded steel construction creates a stable, cleanly controllable workstation. However, those who mostly reload standard calibers should weigh the extra cost and space requirements of the XL version against a more compact single-stage press.

Check before buying

Dies: The press accepts 1-1/4″-12 dies directly and 7/8″-14 dies with the included FORSTER adapter rings.

Primers: The XL has a catcher system for removed primers but no integrated seating system. A separate tool is needed for seating.

Case head and jaws: Especially for .50 BMG applications, the die, jaw set, wear plate, and adjustment depth must fit together; assuming compatibility here is a risk for a bad purchase and operation.

Workbench
: A stiff, firmly anchored surface is a must. FORSTER explicitly recommends a reinforced workbench for .50 BMG cases.

Our assessment from user and instructor perspective
The Co-Ax XL is not a universal recommendation just because of its size. Its benefit comes into play when 1-1/4″ dies, large case heads, or high forming forces are actually part of your own reloading plan. The floating system supports concentric alignment but does not replace correct die adjustment or checking each individual component pairing.

Fits well if: You work on large rifle calibers or ELR setups on a high-quality single-stage press and deliberately operate without integrated primer seating.
Not ideal if: You mainly reload standard calibers, have limited space, or expect all work steps including primer seating in one press.

What really counts in use

Welded steel frame: The XL forgoes the cast frame of the standard Co-Ax and is designed for high rigidity.

13″ lever and ball bearings: The long lever provides mechanical advantage; bearings at the frame connection are meant to make the stroke smoother.

Quick die change: Dies are guided via matching cross-bolt rings in the T-slot without needing to be screwed in each time.

Floating jaws: The spring-loaded case holder jaws open and close automatically and allow the case to align during the working stroke.

Work light and primer catcher: Lighting, drop tube, and catch cup support a controlled, clean workspace.

Instructor/user tip: First mount the press without any twist, then select jaw set and wear plate according to case head dimensions, and adjust the die with an empty, primed case. Stop immediately if unusually high force occurs: check die, lubrication, jaw position, and stop again instead of using the long lever as a problem solver.

Limits, compatibility, and safe use
The press is designed for resizing cases and seating bullets. The supplied aluminum cross-bolt rings are part of the system: they protect the T-slot from harder steel rings and enable the intended floating guidance. Different jaw ranges are available for standard calibers and large cases; the FORSTER chart and manual are decisive.

Important note: Wear safety glasses, avoid pinch points, and securely mount the press with four 1/4″ fasteners. For .50 BMG, setting depth, lubrication, and the correct wear plate are especially critical; the reduced plate must not be used there according to the manual.

Comparison and sensible alternatives

Compared to a classic Co-Ax, the XL targets 1-1/4″ dies, larger cases, and more lever travel; it forgoes integrated primer seating. Frequently Asked Questions
Who is the Co-Ax XL worth it for? Mainly for reloaders of large rifle calibers and ELR setups that require 1-1/4″ dies, large case heads, or high forming forces. For mostly standard 7/8″ dies, a more compact press may be more economical.
Which dies fit? 1-1/4″-12 dies are used with the corresponding cross-bolt rings; 7/8″-14 dies require the supplied adapter cross-bolt rings. FORSTER requires the matching aluminum rings so that the T-slot and floating guide function correctly.
Does the press seat primers? No. It collects spent primers during depriming via the drop tube and cup but does not have an integrated system for seating new primers.
Is .50 BMG possible without further inspection? No. FORSTER points out different case holder thicknesses, die setting depths, jaw ranges, and wear plates. The specific setup must be checked according to the manufacturer’s manual and mounted on a reinforced workbench.
What distinguishes the XL from the standard Co-Ax? The XL additionally accepts 1-1/4″ dies, has a welded steel frame, a wider caliber range, a 13″ lever, ball bearings, and light. Unlike the standard version, it lacks the integrated primer seating system.
Are jaws and adapter rings included? Yes. The manufacturer lists a mounted XL jaw set, an additional S-XL jaw set, two 1-1/4″ cross-bolt rings, and two adapter rings for 7/8″ dies in the scope of delivery.
What weight is specified? A clearly stated net weight of the press is not available in the verified sources. Therefore, a delivery or shipping weight should not be taken as the product weight. (Show description in original language)

Was im Einsatz wirklich zählt
