True Hunter · SFP · 25.4-mm tube
4–16× detail reserve, without unnecessarily complicating the setup
The UTG SCP-U4164AOIEW combines a 4–16×40 scope with objective-side parallax adjustment from 4.57 m, illuminated Mil-Dot reticle, and lockable 1/4-MOA turrets. It fits especially well if you consciously control mounting height, eye relief, and the different Mil/MOA units.
Check mounting and system

Our honest assessment

The core benefit is not “16× at any cost,” but the combination of a short AO limit, moderate 40-mm objective, and included 25.4-mm rings. For controlled range, air rifle, and small caliber setups, this can be very fitting. The 632 g optic is neither an ultralight hunting scope nor a FFP optic with consistently scaled reticle.
The Mil-Dot reticle is in the second focal plane and calibrated for measurements at 10×. At the same time, the turrets work in 1/4 MOA. Those who combine hold points and click corrections therefore need a well-maintained data card instead of spontaneous unit changes.

Fits well if …
You use 4–16× for calm precision work, have a Picatinny/Weaver base, actively adjust the parallax, and consciously use an SFP Mil-Dot reticle at 10×.

Rather doesn’t fit if
…
You’re looking for a lightweight spotting scope, FFP dimensional accuracy at every magnification, a fully consistent MRAD system, or especially high twilight performance.

Purchase check: These dimensions must match

Tube and rings: The main tube diameter is 25.4 mm. The scope comes with a pair of RGWM-25H4 rings for Picatinny/Weaver with a 30.6 mm axis height. Another rail or a 30 mm ring set won’t fit.
Objective clearance: The housing at the objective measures 52 mm. So check not only the nominal 40 mm lens diameter but also barrel, handguard, and any existing sights under the objective.
Space and cheek weld: The usable mounting length is a total of 153 mm, eye relief 81 to 76 mm. Before tightening, eye relief, eye height, ring position, and if applicable bolt handle clearance must fit your setup.
If the supplied height doesn’t fit, you’ll find other mounts and rings for shooting sports. The link doesn’t replace measuring on your actual system.

What the features mean in practice

AO from 4.57 m to infinity
Parallax is adjusted at the objective. This helps at short and changing distances but requires a conscious reach forward and a check by slight head movement.

4–16× and SFP
At 4× the field of view and target acquisition are steadier; at 16× details and hold errors become clearer. The Mil-Dot spacing is dimensionally accurate only at the 10× calibration magnification.

36-color illumination
Red/Green and the multicolor mode change the reticle contrast, not the optical performance. The last used setting is saved; without operation the illumination switches off after one hour.

Lockable 1/4-MOA turrets
The scales can be reset after zeroing and secured against accidental rotation. According to manufacturer data, a true mechanical zero stop is not present.

Typical bad buys and limits

Mil reticle with MOA turrets: 1 Mil in the reticle is not the same as 1 MOA on the turret. Note corrections in a fixed unit and convert them before training.
“Rings included” doesn’t mean “fits everywhere”: The included rings require Picatinny/Weaver and must provide real objective and system clearance.
16× doesn’t replace a stable hold: High magnification makes movement, parallax errors, and an unsteady head position more visible. It doesn’t create precision by itself.
40 mm stays 40 mm: At 16× the exit pupil is 2.5 mm. For very low light or maximum twilight performance, there are more suitable optic classes.

Mounting, zeroing and care

Completely unload the firearm or training system and check for safe condition. Place rings stress-free on the rail, align the scope with sufficient eye relief and level the reticle vertically. Tighten the ring tops evenly in a cross pattern; the general UTG manual limits torque on the 25.4 mm tube to max. 15 in-lb (approx. 1.7 Nm). For the supplied thumb nut rings it specifies 30 in-lb (approx. 3.4 Nm) on the Picatinny base.
First adjust the diopter to the reticle, then correct target distance on the AO and check parallax with minimal head movement. Only then zero on a safe range, reset and lock turret scales. Clean lenses only dust-free and with a suitable cloth; close caps dry before storage.

User tips for reproducible training

Mark 10× as reference
Use 10× for Mil measurements and document this setting on your data card. At other magnifications an SFP reticle changes its coverage relative to the target.

Don’t “trust” AO by scale
Focus for sharpness and then check apparent reticle movement with slight head movement. The scale is a starting point, the check decides.

Sensibly define alternatives

If you
if you want to stick with 4–16× but switch to a 30-mm tube and 44-mm objective, the UTG SCP3-U416AOIEW AccuShot 4–16×44 is the clearer comparison option. For that, you need different rings; the included 25.4-mm rings of this True Hunter model are not transferable.
For a shorter design, you can compare the UTG 4–16×44 Compact variant with Glass Mil-Dot or the UTG 4–16×44 Compact variant with rings. 44 mm objective and “Compact” are not an automatic improvement: tube, mounting surface, reticle, and height must be rechecked.

Frequently asked questions before purchase
Does the scope fit every Picatinny rail? The included rings are designed for Picatinny/Weaver. Still, rail length, ring position, 52-mm objective housing, eye relief, and clearance on the specific system must fit.
Are the included rings suitable for 30 mm? No. The glass and RGWM-25H4 rings have a 25.4 mm diameter. For a 30-mm optic, you need a different ring set.
Is the Mil-Dot reticle accurate at every magnification? No. It is in the second focal plane and is calibrated at 10× according to UTG instructions. At other magnifications, the distances change relative to the target image.
Why are Mil-Dot reticles and MOA turrets a learning point? Reticle and clicks use different angular units. A fixed data card prevents conversion errors when switching between holdover and turret correction.
Can the parallax really be adjusted at short distance? Yes. The manufacturer states 5 yd or 4.57 m to infinity. Adjustment is done at the objective and should be checked by slight head movement.
Is a mechanical zero stop present? No. The turrets can be locked and their scales reset after zeroing, but a true zero stop is not present according to manufacturer data.
Is the glass a good choice for low light? It is illuminated, but the illumination only brightens the reticle. 40 mm objective and 2.5 mm exit pupil at 16× clearly limit twilight performance.

Black-Raptor purchase decision
Choose the glass as a system – not just by maximum magnification.
The SCP-U4164AOIEW is a coherent 4–16×40 solution if 25.4-mm tube, included Picatinny/Weaver rings, 10× Mil reference, and AO operation fit your workflow. If unit system, mounting height, or twilight performance are more important, a clearly defined alternative is the better choice. (Show description in original language)
