Rear sight adapter for a clearly defined combination The first shot after mounting is not for scoring – but for checking. The Vector Optics SCRDM-05 replaces the rear sight on a compatible original Springfield XD and creates a TEK-/Docter-Noblex mount for suitable mini red dots. It is neither a sight nor a universal plate: pistol model, rear sight cutout, footprint, and screws must match. Check fit first
Our honest assessment
The SCRDM-05 is a lightweight adapter solution for Springfield XD slides without direct optic milling. It uses the existing rear sight dovetail, so a blanket statement like “fits all XD” would not be serious. Vector Optics names the original Springfield XD or Springfield Armory XD; the manufacturer explicitly excludes the XDM Elite in its own product FAQ. A verified buyer confirms it does not fit an XDM Elite 10 mm. The benefit is clear: a compatible red dot can be mounted without its own slide milling. The price for this is a higher sight line, loss of the rear open sight, and an additional mechanical interface whose fit regul must be moderately controlled.
Fits well if …
you own an original Springfield XD with a matching rear sight mount, your red dot uses the TEK-/Docter-Noblex footprint, you want a reversible rear sight adapter solution instead of a slide milling, mounting, function check, and new zeroing are done professionally.
Fits less well if …
you have an XDM Elite, an optics-ready variant, or a different replica, your sight uses RMR-, RMSc-, ACRO- or another footprint, you absolutely need co-witness with the open sight, you prefer a confirmed direct milling with the lowest possible profile.
What TEK / Docter-Noblex means here On the top, the plate has the screw and pin pattern called TEK by Vector Optics. The German manufacturer shop assigns Docter Sight, Noblex, Vortex Venom/Viper, Burris FastFire, and certain Vector Optics Frenzy models to it, among others. The footprint name alone is not enough: housing contour, screw diameter, screw length, and clearance must be checked on the specific sight.
Important model boundary SCRDM-05 refers to the Springfield XD plate. “Sphinx” in older product names stands for a Vector Optics red dot series – not for another weapon platform. According to the manufacturer, the plate is not approved for Frenzy S/MGT and not for XDM Elite.
Practical effect of the adapter solution
Reversible The rear sight is removed and can basically be reinstalled. This avoids permanent optic milling as long as the slide and rear sight cutout remain undamaged during mounting.
Higher sight line Plate plus red dot builds higher than a direct milling. This changes the presentation of the weapon and can prevent co-witness with existing sights.
Additional interface Besides the optic screws, the fit of the plate in the dovetail must hold. After stress and the first shooting series, checks are therefore more important than with a cleanly executed direct milling.
Model-specific underside The underside is shaped for the Springfield XD rear sight mount. Similarly looking XD, XDM, or replica slides may have different dimensions.
Mounting and training tips
Identify before purchase: Check exact model designation, generation, optics-ready status, and shape of the rear sight cutout based on the weapon or manufacturer documents.
Do not force out: A tight or stuck rear sight belongs in a suitable sight press or expert hands. Slide, coating, and adapter must not be deformed.
Do not guess screws: Use only the correct length and the torque specified by the optic or screw manufacturer. No reliable general torque value has been published for SCRDM-05.
Use thread locker selectively: Only if approved for the specific combination; keep threads clean and grease-free beforehand.
Check again after mounting: Check safe function, clearance of moving parts, fit marks, and point of impact at an approved range. Check again for movement after the first series.
Suitable optic or other base?
SCRDM-05 + TEK optic Makes sense if the original Springfield XD and a confirmed Docter-Noblex/TEK sight are already fixed. In the shop, SCRD-19II and SCRD-35 are available as manufacturer-named Vector Optics candidates.
Other plate For a different pistol platform or footprint, not a conversion of this plate but the exactly fitting base is required. RMR, RMSc, and ACRO are not interchangeable terms.
Direct milling Usually builds lower and reduces interfaces but permanently alters the slide. This decisi dung belongs to a qualified specialist company and the specific optic.
Optics-Ready System The plate system of the firearm manufacturer applies here. SCRDM-05 is a rear sight adapter plate and not automatically the correct OR plate.

Safety and Care
Before any work, unload the firearm completely, remove the magazine, check the chamber, and separate ammunition spatially. For unclear fit, stuck rear sight, or missing torque specifications, have installation performed by a qualified gunsmith or specialist company. After installation, perform a full function check and a new zeroing at an approved shooting range. Regularly check screw tightness and plate position, especially after impacts or heavy shooting use. Do not force longer screws; contact with internal components or a stressed optic body can impair function and reliability.
FAQ about the SCRDM-05 Is the SCRDM-05 itself a red dot? No. It is exclusively the mounting plate. The compatible reflex sight must be purchased separately. Does it fit a Springfield XDM Elite? No. Vector Optics explicitly answers this negatively for the XDM Elite; there is also a verified buyer experience for the XDM Elite 10 mm. Does it fit every Springfield XD? This cannot be generally stated. The manufacturer names the original Springfield XD but points out model-specific rear sight mounts. Copies, optics-ready versions, and different generations must be measured or professionally confirmed in advance. Can I mount an RMR or RMSc sight? Not directly. SCRDM-05 has the TEK/Docter-Noblex interface. RMR, RMSc, and ACRO use different patterns. Is co-witness with the open sight possible? No guarantee. The rear sight is removed and the adapter raises the optic. Whether a separate backup sight is usable depends on the sight, front sight height, and specific setup. What torque applies to the screws? No reliable general value is published for the entire combination. Relevant are screw size, optic manufacturer, and installation instructions; do not guess if information is missing. Is there a dedicated installation manual? No clearly assigned SCRDM-05 manual is found in the official Vector Optics download portal. The manufacturer refers to the shown installation position; installation should therefore be done professionally if in doubt.
