Vector Optics GPBS-01 · optical Boresighter
New optic mounted – and the first shot should hit the target instead of somewhere off
The GPBS-01 brings barrel axis and reticle into a usable initial alignment without battery or laser. Its job is quick pre-adjustment in the workshop or at the range. The real zero is provided only by the subsequent shot group.
GPBS-01 honest assessment
Our honest assessment
The GPBS-01 is an optical collimator with caliber pins – not a laser boresighter. The matching pin aligns the collimator in front of the muzzle. Through the mounted optic, you see a reference grid and can initially move the reticle to where it should be for your documented setup.
This mainly saves trial shots and helps establish a rough starting point after mounting work. However, it neither simulates bullet trajectory, sight height, zeroing
g noch das Schwingungsverhalten der Waffe. Eine kontrollierte Schussgruppe bleibt zwingend.
Works well if …
you regularly mount, swap, or check scopes,
you want to cover multiple barrel diameters with an organized case system,
you prefer a purely optical solution without batteries,
you understand the collimator as a reproducible diagnostic and pre-zeroing tool.
Works less well if …
you expect a visible laser dot on a distant surface,
you want to determine the final zero without test shots,
your required barrel diameter does not clearly match a mandrel,
you only prepare a single firearm and can look directly into the barrel from behind.
What the optical collimator practically does
Pre-zeroing Faster on target The reference grid creates a defined starting point. This reduces the risk that the first group lies outside the target medium.
Control Make changes visible If you note the grid position of a zeroed setup, noticeable deviations after transport or mounting work can be detected faster.
Limit No ballistic zero The collimator only shows the geometric relationship between barrel axis and sight line. You check ammunition, distance, and shooting behavior exclusively at the range.
Trainer tip: After the real zeroing, note the grid position for exactly this firearm, scope, mount, and the same mandrel. The greatest benefit does not come from a supposedly universal target image, but from a repeatable reference of your own setup.
Use safely and protect material
Firearm fully unloaded: remove magazine, check cartridge chamber and barrel, remove ammunition from the work area, and safely point the muzzle.
Choose the right mandrel: use only a clearly fitting, clean mandrel. Never press into the muzzle with force.
Store firearm stably: any movement changes the reference between barrel axis, collimator grid, and reticle.
Insert collimator straight: place mandrel and optical unit without tension; stop and check the fit if there is resistance or play.
Pre-zero roughly only: align reticle on the reference grid and document the position. Do not unnecessarily turn to the mechanical stop of the scope.
Remove before shooting: fully remove collimator and mandrel from the barrel, check barrel again, and confirm zero with a safe shot group.
Typical mistakes that cost time and precision
Wrong or tensioned mandrel Even slight play, dirt, or lateral tension shifts the grid image. Don’t “make it fit,” but check size and fit again.
Confusing grid position with point of impact The grid is a geometric reference. Without real distance, bullet flight, and shot group, it is not a reliable zero.
Moving firearm between looks Pre-zeroing only works with a stable rest. After each touch, first check if barrel and collimator still stand unchanged.
Forgetting mandrel in barrel Before each shot, the barrel must be completely free. An inserted mandrel is a dangerous barrel blockage.
GPBS-01, laser or looking through the barrel?
This optical collimator set Independent of battery and target wall, with reference grid and multiple mandrels. For this, you have to work through the mounted sight optic and assign the matching mandrel cleanly.
Alternative method Align through the barrel Favorable and gentle for firearms with freely visible barrel axis, but not practical for every design and without stored grid reference.
Different device class Laser boresighter Projects a dot and can seem more intuitive, but requires power and rem
t is also only a geometric pre-alignment. The GPBS-01 contains no laser.
Technical Data with Practical Interpretation
Model Vector Optics / GunPany GPBS-01, optical 16-piece boresighter kit.
Operating Principle Optical collimator with reference grid and barrel pins; no battery, no electronics, and no laser.
Optics FMC coating according to exact product data. It supports a clearly readable grid image through the mounted optics.
Case 28 × 21 × 6 cm; organized, marked slots help to correctly replace the pins after use.
Product Weight 1.3 kg according to several exact GPBS-01 data sets. Shopify lists 1.5 kg as shipping weight; therefore, this difference remains internally marked for review.
Platforms According to exact product data for suitable rifle, shotgun, airgun, and handgun barrels. The decisive factor is always the actually fitting pin and a suitable muzzle geometry.
Caliber Pins and Scope of Delivery
Securely included: optical collimator, 16 barrel pins, and plastic carrying case.
Publicly accessible, exactly GPBS-01 assigned dealer data list the following sizes: .177 / 4.5 mm, .22 / 5.5 mm, 6 mm, .25 / 6.35 mm, 6.5 mm, .27 / 6.8 mm, 7 mm, .30 / 7.62 mm, .32, .338, .35, .375, .44, .45, and .50.
Honest data note: The sources mention 16 pins but only clearly name 15 sizes in the published list. Since no model-specific manufacturer manual is currently available, we do not assign an unsubstantiated designation for the sixteenth pin.
Care and Storage
Wipe pins dry and clean after use. Oil, dirt, or metal debris do not belong on the contact surfaces or inside the barrel. Clean the optical surface only with suitable optical materials and not with oily gun cleaning cloths. Return all parts pressure-free to their marked case slots.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the GPBS-01 a laser boresighter? No. It is a purely optical collimator. You see a reference grid through the mounted optics; no laser dot appears on the target.
Can I zero a firearm completely with it? No. The set brings you to a meaningful starting position and can show reference deviations. The final zero must be confirmed with suitable ammunition and a controlled shot group.
Does the set fit securely to every caliber between .177 and .50? No. The decisive factor is the actually fitting pin, not just the caliber designation. The pin must not be forced if there is play, resistance, or unsuitable muzzle geometry.
Why does the description only name 15 sizes for 16 pins? Several exact GPBS-01 sources confirm 16 pins but only publish 15 clearly named sizes. Without a current model-specific manual, we do not add the missing designation by guesswork.
What does the reference grid mean? It shows the position of the reticle relative to the barrel axis. It becomes especially useful when you document the position of a real zeroed setup and compare it later.
Why must the pin be removed before shooting? A pin in the barrel blocks the muzzle and would be dangerous. Before every shot, the collimator and pin must be removed, and the chamber and barrel checked again.

Vector Optics GPBS-01 · optischer Boresighter
Was der optische Kollimator praktisch leistet

Was bedeutet das Referenzgitter?
