The V55L places larger flashlights in a defined spot: secured, one-handed releasable, and lockable in 16 angles. The practical benefit isn’t “tactical looks,” but repeatable access without the flashlight rattling loose in your pocket or vehicle.
Crucial before buying: The flashlight head must measure 27–39 mm and the body 24–28 mm. Both dimensions must fit simultaneously.

Our honest assessment
The V55L
is an open quick-draw holster for larger tactical flashlights. Its NQD system combines a form-fitting hold, tool-free adjustable retention, and a positively locking release lever. This is especially useful when access, carry angle, and retention should always be consistent – for example on a duty belt, MOLLE carrier, during training, or frequent transitions between vehicle and foot patrol.
The open design is also the limit: it keeps the flashlight accessible but does not protect it as fully from dirt, impacts, and weather as a closed textile holster. “Large” is not universal either. Diameter is the first filter; shape, clip, bezel ring, and protrusions of the specific flashlight can further affect the fit.

your flashlight has a 27–39 mm head diameter and 24–28 mm body diameter,
you want to carry it on a 38–50 mm wide belt or MOLLE,
you prioritize quick one-handed draw with clear locking,
you want to adjust the angle when sitting, working, or moving.

your flashlight is strongly tapered or has a disruptive clip or bezel ring,
you expect full dust, rain, and impact protection from a closed case,

A 21700 flashlight can be too wide, too narrow, or unfavorably shaped at the head. Measure the cylindrical body where the holster grips and the largest flashlight head diameter. Then check if the clip, side switch, or control ring collide when inserting. Only the functional and retention test with your exact flashlight decides.
Real mispurchase warning: A published buyer report on the V55/V55L series describes several Streamlight flashlights of different sizes not fitting. This confirms the rule: model name, brand, or cell format do not replace both diameters or the functional and retention test.
What the design changes in use
One-handed release
The flashlight stays locked until the side lever is pressed. This creates defined retention; the movement sequence still needs to be practiced with the actual carry position.
360° and 16 locking positions
The angle can be adjusted when sitting, kneeling, and working. In a suitable position, the switched-on flashlight can provide directed light while both hands remain free.
Tool-free retention adjustment
The tension can be tuned to the specific flashlight. Too loose increases loss and rattling risk; too tight makes the draw unnecessarily hard.
Belt and MOLLE
The modular back is designed for 38–50 mm wide belts and compatible MOLLE configurations. Crucial is that the base fits without play and does not block neighboring gear.
Trainer and user tips
First dry, then dynamic: Practice locking, unlocking, and reholstering slowly at first. Speed comes from a clean path, not force.
Test the complete setup: Check with jacket, gloves, belt, vest, and vehicle seating position. A holster that works alone may collide with additional gear.
Check retention stepwise: Insert flashlight, check locking, then test drawing, walking, kneeling, and quick direction changes. No unnecessary dropping or force attempts.
Keep switch clear: Check if the flashlight activates unintentionally when inserting or if heat can build up in the holster.
Recheck after changes: After moving on the belt, switching to MOLLE, or adjusting retention, test the entire sequence again.
V55L or V55 Standard?
V55L Large
For larger flashlights: head 27–39 mm, body 24–28 mm. 132 × 50 × 64 mm and 80 g. The right choice for the manufacturer-listed Large models.
V55 Standard
For slimmer flashlights: head 21–31 mm, body 19–23 mm. 125 × 49 × 59 mm and 76 g. If the flashlight body is under 24 mm, this is usually the more suitable starting point.

For both variants: dimensional windows are more reliable than general statements like “fits 21700”. NEXTORCH lists for the V55L size among others TA30D MAX, TA30C MAX, P91, P86, P84, P83, P81, P80, T10L, E52C, E52D, T7 Max Set, and T5 Set. Assembly, safety, and care
The attachment must fit snugly on the intended belt or MOLLE carrier. Position the release lever so you can consciously reach it but not accidentally activate it through seating, backpack, clothing, or neighboring equipment. Before every safety-critical use, check locking, holding force, detent, and material for cracks, deformation, or unusual play.
Remove dust and sand from joint, locking, and mount with a soft brush or damp cloth. Do not use aggressive solvents and avoid exposing the polyamide fiberglass to unnecessary high heat. A damaged or no longer cleanly detenting component must be taken out of service.
FAQ about the NEXTORCH V55L
Does every flashlight with 24–28 mm body fit?
No. Additionally, the head must measure 27–39 mm. Clip, locking ring, side switch, and housing shape must also not collide.
Does every 21700 flashlight automatically fit?
No. The cell format describes the battery, not the external dimensions of the flashlight. The two manufacturer dimensional windows and the real function test are decisive.
Can the flashlight serve as a work light in the holster?
The 16 detent angles and the lower light passage are intended for directed, hands-free illumination. Whether this works sensibly depends on the switch, beam pattern, and fit of your specific flashlight.
Is the V55L MOLLE-compatible?
Yes. NEXTORCH names a modular back for duty belts and MOLLE. After mounting, fit, locking, and access must be checked in the complete carrying system.
How does the V55L differ from the V55?

Can the holster accidentally unlock?
