Die 8x57 JRS ist eine erstklassige Patrone für kombinierte Waffen, insbesondere Doppelkugelwaffen. Man erreicht mit ihr in Doppelbüchsen eine sehr schnelle Schussfolge, da der Lauf beim Schuss nur minimal aus dem Ziel gedrückt wird. Da es schon eine 8x57 JR gab, war es der logische Schritt, neben der 8x57 JS mit den stärkeren 8 mm Geschossen auch eine Patrone mit Rand für Kipplaufwaffen zu schaffen. Die 8x57 JRS ist also die Schwesterpatrone der randlosen 8x57 JS. Sie wurde ebenfalls 1905 eingeführt.
