Die RWS .22 Hornet ist ideal für die Fuchs- und Hasenjagd, da sie besonders balg- und wildbretschonend ist. Daher wird sie häufig auch für die Jagd auf den Auerhahn oder Birkhahn eingesetzt. Die ideale Schussentfernung liegt knapp unter 100 m, da diese kleine Patrone etwas windempfindlich ist. Wegen ihres geringen Rückstoßes ist das kleine Kaliber bei Jägerinnen und Jägern sehr beliebt. Aus modernen Waffen zeigt die .22 Hornet eine hervorragende Präzision. Diese RWS-Patrone ist zudem perfekt für Einsteckläufe in kombinierten Waffen geeignet, da sie den Verschluss nicht so stark belastet. Für ältere Drillinge stellt sie häufig das Maximalkaliber für Einsteckläufe dar. Jagdlich wird sie oft in präzisen Repetierern genutzt.
