Forrest Bore Cleaning Foam is the most modern way to clean the barrel - simply pour it into the barrel, wait until the barrel is filled with white foam, and then let it sit for only 20-30 minutes.
Then remove it with a cleaning rod and patch. The foam turns blue when it reacts with copper, and it turns black when it comes into contact with powder.
Once the barrel is completely cleaned (in some cases, a heavily soiled barrel may require a repeat of the cleaning process), it is sufficient to use oil to preserve the barrel.
