With the "Competition Rifle" 223, short CR 223, the gunsmith Haenel continues its long tradition in the manufacture of semi-automatic rifles. Once, the first assault rifle in history was built and developed at C.G. Haenel in Suhl. The CR 223 is a semi-automatic rifle with a piston system in caliber .223 Rem. based on the legendary AR 15 system. As a modern self-loader in centerfire configuration, the Haenel CR 223 also functions as a gas-operated loader with a rotating bolt.

Haenel in Suhl das erste Sturmgewehr der Geschichte gebaut und entwickelt. Es handelt sich bei der CR 223 um eine halbautomatische Büchse mit Pistonsystem im Kaliber .223 Rem. auf Basis des legendären AR 15 Systems. Als moderner Selbstlader in Zentralfeuer-Ausführung, funktioniert auch die Haenel CR 223 als Gasdrucklader mit Drehkopfverschluss.
