The .30-06 is probably the most popular universal caliber, with which all types of game on Earth have certainly been hunted. The effective range of the cartridge, which can be equipped with RWS bullets from 9.7 g to 13.0 g, extends to about 300 m.
The cartridge was developed in 1903 and received its final dimensions in 1906, the year it was also introduced as a service cartridge in the USA ("Ball Cartridge, Caliber .30, Model of 1906"). The cartridge quickly became very popular as a hunting and sporting cartridge.
The .30-06 Springfield is also well-suited for recoil-sensitive shooters.
RWS Short Rifle cartridges in caliber .30-06:
Short, handy barrels are increasingly gaining popularity among hunters. This trend is supported by the growing use of suppressors. Standard ammunition is designed for common barrel lengths of 600 mm. When firing standard ammunition from short barrels (420 mm to 550 mm), the following disadvantages become apparent: energy and velocity loss, limited effectiveness, pronounced muzzle flash, loud muzzle report, and increased wear on suppressors.
Therefore, RWS has developed the Short Rifle cartridge, which is specifically optimized for use from short barrels. In practice, this means: shooting from short barrels without loss of performance.

Die .30-06 ist das wohl beliebteste Universalkaliber, mit dem sicherlich schon alle Wildarten auf der Erde erlegt wurden. Die Einsatzweite der Patrone, die mit RWS-Geschossen von 9,7 g bis 13,0 g ausgestattet werden kann, reicht bis etwa 300 m.
Die Patrone wurde 1903 entwickelt und erhielt ihre endgültigen Dimensionen 1906, dem Jahr, in dem sie auch als Ordonnanzpatrone in den USA ("Ball Cartridge, Caliber .30, Model of 1906") eingeführt wurde. Die Patrone wurde schnell als Jagd- und Sportpatrone sehr populär.
Die .30-06 Springfield ist auch gut von rückstoßempfindlichen Schützen schießbar.

Zunehmend gewinnen kurze, führige Läufe an Beliebtheit in der Jägerschaft. Dieser Trend wird durch die immer häufigere Verwendung von Schalldämpfern unterstützt. Standardmunition ist auf gängige Lauflängen von 600 mm ausgelegt. Beim Verschießen von Standardmunition aus kurzen Läufen (420 mm bis 550 mm) zeigen sich folgende Nachteile: Energie- und Geschwindigkeitsverlust, eingeschränkte Wirksamkeit, ausgeprägtes Mündungsfeuer, lauter Mündungsknall und erhöhte Abnutzung bei Schalldämpfern.
