Cartridge cases, together with the primer, the propellant charge and the bullet, form the cartridge and are usually made of brass. The cartridge case is the only component of a cartridge that can be recycled, either in reloading, refilling the same case, or as a material. The case is usually the most expensive component of a cartridge.
