The Italian manufacturer Benelli belongs to Beretta and is the specialist of the group for semi-automatic hunting weapons. The Benelli ARGO has been produced since 2002 and is one of the most popular self-loading rifles for hunting worldwide.
ARGO - the abbreviation stands for Auto Regulated Gas Operated and originates from the semi-automatic shotgun Benelli M4, which was designed for military use and is characterized by its simple construction with few parts.
Regarding the construction: The Benelli ARGO features a two-part receiver. The upper part is made of steel and houses the barrel and the bolt, while the lower part, made of aluminum, contains the trigger, the mechanism, and the magazine well. There are holes on the receiver for mounting scopes.
The rotating bolt of the ARGO has three locking lugs that lock directly in the barrel. The gas extraction for the gas pressure loading system is taken very close to the chamber, unlike many other self-loading rifles, resulting in very high pressure and temperature. The gases act directly on a stainless steel piston, which is connected to the bolt via an intermediate piece. This is controlled by a cam. The closing spring is located in the buttstock - the front part of the Benelli has as little mechanical technology as possible.
The controls are conveniently compactly located near the trigger guard. The push-button safety is even located inside the trigger guard. The magazine release button is mounted as a push plate on the front side, while the bolt release is located on the right side of the trigger guard. However, the safety only blocks the trigger. The magazine holds only two cartridges in accordance with hunting laws - the weapon can therefore only be loaded with three cartridges.
The semi-automatic rifle is available from 1650 euros, depending on the equipment.
