Sauer 404

With the S 404 , Sauer presents its upper-class repeater, which is manufactured according to Sauer 's traditional quality standards. The S 404 replaced the S 202 upper-class model manufactured up to that point in 2015.

As with the S 303 and S 101, the S 404 features a manual cocking system that is supposed to ensure silent cocking and decocking of the rifle with easy operation. The repeating process is also said to be silent. In addition to manual cocking, the S 404 has an automatic firing pin safety that is effective as long as the bolt is not fully locked. In order to make the repeating process quiet as well, Sauer relies on a soft chambering, as it does with all of its bolt action rifles, and the company repeatedly boasts of its special quality.

A special feature of the Sauer S 404 is the locking head, which can be separated from the chamber by two simple hand grips and can therefore be replaced. On the one hand, this is intended to contribute to the safety of the weapon, as it makes it even easier to ensure that no unauthorized person can fire the weapon. Furthermore, this feature serves the possibility of being able to carry several calibers in one and the same rifle. Thus, the Sauer 404 has a high degree of modularity and allows the hunter to switch between different calibers in a short time.

As with the S 202, the barrel of the S 404 is fixed with three clamping screws. The radial fixation of the barrel serves the purpose of precision, as this is how the S 404 is supposed to be able to be shot with return accuracy.

The Universal Key (SUS) integrated into the removable sling swivel of the forearm is also a special feature of the S 404. With it, the hunter always carries the central tool for the modularity and flexibility of the S 404. Modularity is also ensured by the system and the bolt. The same bolt head fits different calibers (only for magnum calibers there is an extra bolt head) and can be replaced just as quickly as the barrel. This also ensures safety when the rifle cannot be stored in the gun cabinet for a short period of time (for example, when traveling or during a bowl drive after a driven hunt): The bolt head can be removed in a few simple steps, making it impossible to fire the weapon.
